first of all, there are 4 options to what to show inline, here's a shot:
Image

as for the full screenshot, i'm just linking it to my website instead of putting it here because i've done it at full size.

as you see with all 4 inline options selected the mixing board takes up nearly all of the vertical space on my monitor which is a 20" apple LCD.

i keep the Meter Bridge below the mixing board on that monitor, so using the inline controls would not fit vertically... and having scrollbars on the mixer window is a no-no for me.

but, fortunately, i don't have too much desire to use the inline controls, as i prefer UAD for those tasks and a larger GUI anyway...

No inline phase switch, but there's always Trim. The channel strip plugins allow you to select between Masterworks EQ, or 2, 4, or 8 band EQ (regular MAS EQ). In the dynamics plugin, you can select between Dynamics, MW Gate, MW Limiter, MW Compressor, or MW Leveler. I like the Leveler and MW EQ.

Ok. I've been busy since yesterday afternoon, and DP7 is EXCELLENT. Don't be afraid of it. I'll write more when I can. First, someone asked for screenshots. Here are some:

The new Channel Strip in action. Notice that you can make it multi-columnar, or single if you have a tall space to fill.

MIDI Edit Window - more extensive controls up at the top, plus double-line readouts.

Mixing Board. Note Channel Strips with EQ and Leveler.

Quickscribe: notice lyrics and text boxes. You get to name the font and style, and you can put the boxes anywhere. This was a hurry-up job just to take a screenshot and demonstrate the concept.

Ivory: Debussy Prelude - La Cathedrale Engloutie Quick bounce just to show that it's working fine.

Ibert: Concertino da Camera Another quick bounce to show MSI, Wallander's WIVI, and VSL strings all working together just fine. I had to freeze MSI.

Please do not judge the mix or balance on the Ibert; I basically threw the instruments on there. It was created for a completely different set of VI's, and would need replaying and/or balancing to make it sound decent.

This is all kind of rushed, just to show you what's here. I can't possibly show it all. You just need to get this upgrade. I think it's better than DP6.02 in Snow Leopard, but that's an opinion, of course. I'll have to give reasons and specifics later.

Let me just finish by saying this thing rocks. I'm already addicted to the channel strip.

MOTU has done well. We can relax and be happy about this.

Thanks Shooshie. I've been waiting all night for your initial report. Very pleased to read your findings. :-)

Quite a cool piece that is. I like it a lot. At some point I would love to hear your other version with the instruments you originally intended for it. That is some groovy stuff.

I was going to say that it sounds like classical music from the 1920s... but I just looked it up on Wikipedia and see that is 1935-1936. I was pretty close. Love that era.

Shoosh! Only you would mock up the Ibert! Great job by the way. But, I REALLY need a real saxophone on this. Do you mind if I play this for my students?

Sure, go ahead, Rik, but I'm going to complete it soon. It should sound a lot better after I mix and/or replay the instruments. Those are just set in place where MSI instruments were. The phrasing doesn't match the instruments at all. I may just have to play them all in again. If I can find a better sax sound, I'll play it in, too. That's just MSI on the sax. The rest of the winds are WIVI, and the strings are VSL. All need rephrasing. Honestly, it's not a great job yet. But it will be! ;)

Tempted to record the sax part on my alto. It's just that I'd have to get reeds working, and all that. I just play soprano these days.

Hehehe... it was kinda in left field. The music is the Debussy. That would be the slowest Flatt & Scruggs in history.

for the 10 mins i've played around with my install of DP7:

- opened up a large 6.02 project. UAD plugs, various native plugs, etc. no hitches. everything seemed to work fine. but i didn't test every detail.

- the inline EQ dynamics i'm not sure i'll use. takes up precious vertical space in the mixer window and i prefer other plugs for those duties besides MOTU's.

- the "channel strip" window i think will be quite useful. basically, when you select a track in any window, it becomes the active channel in the strip. sometimes when i select a track it takes me a while to find that track amongst all the others in the mixer window to make a tweak, now it'll pop right into this new window by itself so i can go right to it. i have it docked on the far right of my left hand monitor in the consolidated window next to my sequence and track editors.

- realtime fades = great

- the project seemed to open faster in DP7.. where i got more spinning beach ball in 6 to get the file playable, 7 was much faster. good be this project or something else altogether.. but, dare i say 7 was ******** in this regard.

that's my first 5 or 10 minutes. most happy to know that my 6.02 session opened fine in 7. i may go forward with 7 starting today, after backing up the 6 files. although, 7 can save into 6 (and other previous) formats.

by the way: mac pro octo 2.8, leopard 10.5.8
I will definitely be upgrding at some point. It's good to see that you're having a positive experience.

My projects usually involve a lot of VI's (Ivory, EastWest, EZ Drummer,MachFive 2,etc.) I'm wondering if the project load time will improve for that scenarion. I know EZ Drummer takes awhile to load, but I'm figuring it's because I start projects at 24/48. I think EZ Drummer has to convert from 16-bit

Shooshie,

Thank you for the report! Could anyone with DP7 and VSL Vienna Ensemble check if they fixed the bug where the Vienna Ensemble output channel numbers didn't show up in the Instrument bus list? (At least they don't in my setup but probably it's PPC-specific)? Also did they fix the funny behavior with the renaming the VSL instrument?

Is there the issue with the Waveform Editor where it takes ages to close?

Thanks!

So far so good here on a 2x2.26 gig quad core intel running 10.5.8. The graphics inline of dynamics and eq may turn out handier than at first blush.

What is very nice is that now the channel strip is displayed in the info bar in Quickscribe. Clicking a staff changes the active channel strip, which means no more going to tracks or sequence windows simply to enable record. I've wanted that since the earliest days of quickscribe.

Do chord symbols show up anywhere else besides the notation page?

.

Beware! Shooshie has Frodo's ring hidden in his desktop :)

Man, I haven't even received a UPS notice. Hopefully mine will be here by the end of next week...

Are chord symbols "smart"? Does DP guess them? If so, I hope it can be overridden.
I too would like to know if they can appear in other editing windows as some kind of marker, or something.

DP 7 looks wonderful !!!
