MachFive + 10.5.7 = temporary visual gibberish

Post by ewillhelm »

So I just upped to OSX 10.5.7, and first thing I'm noticing is that all of a sudden, whenever I launch M5 (as a plugin within ProTools 8) the plugin window is visual jibberish for a few seconds before eventually clearing up to the regular M5 window. So far it doesn't appear to be causing any performance issues, but just curious to see if it's just me, or if anyone else out there is experiencing the same.

Oh, and I'm on a 2gHz iMac Core 2 Duo.

That's happened to me since mac os 10.5.4
But now MachFive actually works as a plugin..(still crashes standalone)
From 10.5.4 up until now, all it ever did was crash..now it (inexplicably) works..

+1. It's only momentary, and as you said, it does disappear. And I recently bought MachFive 2, so I wouldn't know about any previous behavior. Doesn't appear to affect performance though, right?

Hello - I can't get M5v2 working in PTLE 7.4.2 at all - I'm researching whether going up to 10.5.7 will be a disaster or not at the moment.

What setup is working for you? Which versions of PT, M5, etc?

All help gratefully received!

(I'm on a 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo iMac with 2Gb RAM, PTLE 7.4.2 -> 8.0, Logic 8.02 and M5v2.0.2)

The setup that's working for me is:

Digital Performer 6.02
MachFive 2.0.2
Intel iMac 20" 2.4GHz Core 2Duo
3G RAM
OSX10.5.7

We probably have the same installed video card, since we're both using a iMac. I'm not sure how many instances of the plug i can run, but so far it's been pretty stable.

I'm also going to increase to 4G's of RAM.... and I also have the Sound Discs on a separate 500G FW HD

Does it work for you in standalone?

M5v2 works well in standalone mode, very well in Logic 8 and 7 (slight issue with some key commands being eaten though) and absolutely disastrously in PTLE 7.4.2. No complaints on processor hit (I've not tested fully, but it's never complained).

Wonder if ewillhelm can add any more about PT performance?

Funny thing is, my experience with M5v2 and PT7.4 was very limited. During the time I had 7.4 (and 7.4.2) I wasn't doing much work with M5. Now that I'm in PT8, M5v2 SEEMS to be doing fine. But then again, I'm no power user, so there may be some things there that I'm not aware of or noticing that more advanced users might catch on to. HOWEVER< if anyone wants me to check anything, just let me know and I'll post the results here for you.

Thanks, Eric.

So it seems that an Intel Mac, PT8, M5v2 and 10.5.7 combo is working now?! Can anyone else report about this [relatively obscure?] combination?

Just to repeat - MachFive 2.02 works well standalone and in Logic 7 and 8 on my OS X 10.5.4 Intel iMac, but it fails totally in PTLE 7.4.2.

Just so you know, the "temporary visual gibberish" is gone in Snow Leopard

Result. Now all we need is RTAS capability...! Thanks for that, tonester.
