Have to say... the placement of things have substantially improved over L8. One thing about DP is that everything is pretty much under the menu you would expect it to be under - not so with Logic - VERY frustrating and annoying.

They seem to have figured out where at least a few of the things are supposed to go (LOL).

DP really needs to pick up their game - and they need to do some creative marketing before the rest of their base erodes.

I have Logic Express 8.02. I opened it a handful of times and then have done nothing with it. I got it cheap, but apparently not cheap enough as much as I use it... which is nil. I launch it every so often as a curiosity. :(

I will always use DP for my tracking, mixing, etc because I feel it is a far more superior program than Logic, BUT, I did upgrade to Logic 9 and I find the program fun to play with (although a confusing layout?). It has so many things bundled with it. I like to play with the loops and VI's. It gives me so many ideas for songwriting. If I did happen to write something on it, I could always export a file into DP and use it. I have that program UVI workstation to utilize apple loops. It woks really well.
One thing that I did like though was the tuner plugin. Why can't DP have that in there. that is really useful and convenient.
than guitar rig stuff is pretty lame but it is nice for quick idea stuff.
I think Logic 9 has a use in my system, but only for the things that I described. I don't want to relearn a whole new system.
I really love DP 5.13. I guess when they get a solid version out that everybody is comfortable with, I will upgrade.
If MOTU did put out a package that as many software goodies that Logic has, It would absolutely smoke Logic it in the market place. Apple has pretty deep pockets right now, and Hey, I support Apple and it's products. I hope it stays in business a looong time. Maybe me and others buying Logic will help, but I hope not at the expense of MOTU as I want to support them also.
Motu has the good system, they just need to add the goodies to complete the package for the people that are looking for those things and can't find them in the DP package right now.

Hey Don... how do you use the Apple loops with UVI WS? I imagine you just have to find the directory where those loops are installed with Logic, yes? I need to add that directory to UVI Workstation's browser I guess.

Yeah, I insert UVI as a plugin and then select the directory where the apple loops are stored. Everything is in the UVI window. When you get what you want, you can keep it as a loop or record the loop to a track. Somebody else may have a different way of doing it.

I find Logic finally is (90%) on par with DP as far as the Audio Engine is concerned. Logic 8 was nice, but WRONG in the top end. I think they hit the nail on the head this time.
DP 6.02
Quad 3.0 Ghz, 8.0 GB RAM, 2 - 1TB HD, 5 - 500GB HD's (RAID)

Euphonix MC Control

Can you not drag and drop from UVI Workstation to an audio track? I was wondering what the directory where apple loops are stored is. I can probably find it myself but I'm being lazy!

Hey James, it took me a minute to re-figure it out again. I said it wrong. You open an INSTRUMENT track not a plugin, and select UVIworkstation as the instrument. The when it opens, double click on one of the track in it that say empty. It will then open a browser. Go to Library/audio/apple loops/apple. You will then see a list for Jam packs and Garage band, Ilife sound effects , apple loops for sound track pro, etc. I am not sure about the drag and drop. I just usually output the track to another audio track or use a bus. You get the picture. It works anyway and it is a way to utilize the Apple loops in Jam packs and in Garage Band. I would like to hear input from others if there is more we can do with this.

Hey thanks Don... I know where the browser is Thanks... I'll go take a look for the apple loops. BTW, though... you didn't mention if there was a reason you don't drag & drop the loops from UVI Workstation. If you click the Loop tab in UVI WS, you will see parameters having to do with the loop and you can drag and drop on to an audio track in DP's Track Overview.

I just never tried it. It would be a lot simpler to do it that way. I'll give it a try next time I get something going. I think the UVIworkstation is a pretty neat tool, AND we can use the Apple loops, .caf or whatever format in DP. In a way we are then supporting MOTU and Apple at the same time :D :D
I think the pitch can be adjusted as well as the tempo.

I just checked. I don't see anyway to drag loops from UVI into DP. It is just acting as a virtual instrument. there is not an actual window that you can see the audio in the loop. It is just a loop mixer. I will have to do some experimenting to see .

Oh do I have some good news for you. You can definitely drag and drop. I just did it. Check back... I'll post a URL to a QT movie I'm making right now that shows you how... one sec...
