Unfortunately, almost all of the sampled pianos I've used contain uneven velocities. For example, in Mach V 2, the German Grand's D right above middle C it too loud with a 63 on velocity and too soft at 62. It would be one thing if the note wasn't right in the middle of the playable range, but I can't understand how something so blatantly poor could make the cut.

Thanks to all ad particularly to MLC for looking at the file. I've just opened it up and, yes, there are a lot of windows open (oops!) - before starting on this version of the sequence it was acting as a backing track for a song - I'm now doing a version without vocals in which the piano is in the foreground but all the windows remained open after having deleted the vocal tracks. So I can cut down all those and see what happens - I wonder if I need to purge the undo history to release a bit more headroom? I've stuck with the M5 Grand Piano because I'm not too keen on the others which seem less natural. If necc I can create the track with an external module but it seems a shame when I have potentially superior (and more expensive) samples in M5 and GPO.

This is really interesting - and rather disappointing - at least it's not just me!

Hey MLC:

You're not only very helpful, but you are REALLY critical of your own work!!
