Re: Apple did it again - Logic 9
Like I said-- I'm not pro-Logic or anti-DP.
When MOTU releases their next version of DP, I'll be there. I just don't want to cow-tow suddenly to some general anti-Logic sentiment even though I've been with it since version 5. I've been with DP much longer than that-- since v. 2.x
I think it's a good thing that there's a new version of Logic...even in the context of DP development. Especially in he context of DP development.
I would (and will) also praise a new version of DP (remember how I went to bat for Motunation one year ago this month by taking dozens of users' questions to a DP6 release seminar--- AND in another thread earlier today -Thursday- I more than suggested that those of us who are carrying water for MOTU have no other choice but to be patient???
I practice what I preach.
That I'm getting Logic 9 has no impact on anything outside my own system. It's really a rather emotionless procedure. I've had no fewer than 2 DAWs at any one time for years. I don't want to create an atmosphere of anxiety-- or discourage anyone from doing anything they feel is improper. To that extent, I have no intent or desire to *encourage* anyone to do anything that is inappropriate or politically incorrect.
Neither do I want to be the kind of DP user that puts meaningless pressure on MOTU to implement anything THEY don't want to just because I saw some feature in another app. That's not what my perspective (anyway) is about.
I just want to get my work done.
Just sayin'....

Agreed, editing audio in Logic is confounding!!
Mac Pro Quad 2.66 5gigs ram, OSX.6.1, DP 7.02 Apogee ADX 16, Mytec DAC, Mackie MCU, MTP-AV, Stylus RMX, Ivory, EWQL, Plug Sound Pro, Mach V, Reason, MX4, Ethno-instrument, Virtual Guitarist2, Do I really need all this stuff? UAD-1,2, Waves L3, PSP, Altiverb, Neodynium, AT 5 various other plugz.
Re: Apple did it again - Logic 9
You know, there are good things about DP and good things about Logic. Both have their weaknesses as well. I guess I don't understand the idea of having to choose between one or the other (unless finances dictate, which is understandable), so I use both of DAW's and like both. If that sounds pro-Logic, it isn't. Nor is it meant to be anti-DP. I hope those of us who do use both applications in our workflow would not have to go to the Apple forums to discuss DP/Logic topics, but I will abide by the rules of the forum, and if Logic is off limits here I understand.

Well, this is good for me in that I was planning on picking up Logic eventually, just to try it, but hadn't picked up 8 yet...maybe at this rate I'll just wait 'till Logic X.

I agree that having only DAW in this day and age is a little 20th century really
I have Logic8 DP6 and pro tools 7 on the tower ATM but I use DP 95% of the time.
Flex tool in L9 looks amazing but I'll wait for DP7 for this feature i think

Re: Apple did it again - Logic 9
Well, alot of good info here - especially the post about linking logic and DP together, though that sounds like an invite to a dance I would long regret. Going to buy Logic 9 today and put it on my rig and start test driving it, well, if it is in the stores yet.

Not referring to you Frodo, but the post of someone you quoted. I'm also going to delete some posts subsequent to this one, because I asked to take the lovefest somewhere else, and then I get more of them. This is a MOTU-oriented board for the most part and again, if you want to just post about how great Logic is, post elsewhere.Frodo wrote:Like I said-- I'm not pro-Logic or anti-DP.

Not off limits... especially in compare and contrast posts. But I'm uncomfortable with posts that are basically flowery, glowing reviews of how utterly wonderful Logic is. Go tell your friends, write an email to Apple about it, but I remain pro-DP and this is a MOTU-oriented board and I don't see how posts that are strictly Logic advocacy with no other content are beneficial. Granted people use multiple DAWs-- as cumbersome as that may be sometimes given the lack of a robust interchange format-- and I have nothing against posts about using both.billf wrote:You know, there are good things about DP and good things about Logic. I've been especially laid back here about DP criticism. Anybody who will be honest with themselves cannot accuse me of being unfair in that regard. I've bristled a little when I've seen uninformed bashing, but I myself have pointedly criticized many of the shortcomings and problems with DP6. But so long as this is a MOTU and DP-oriented board, I think any outright or even borderline evangelizing for competing DAWs, is tacky.

That's fair and cool.
And speaking of the weather...

Well, I was trying to come up with something clever about the "climate" of the forum, but I've got nothing.

The grey makes it a cloudy kind of day here in MOTU land. But you can still get a decent burn even on a cloudy day, so let the lurkers beware!Frodo wrote: And speaking of the weather......

a thread I saw on Gearslutz might be an interesting thread to follow for PPC users, according to the OP this simple hack will allow PPC users to use L9.
if this works it might be very cool to try,I am watching this........................................
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-co ... er-pc.html
the 1st software I ever got was Logic for a PC(a long time ago)I could not get it to work on my PC(Compaq P2 512 mb ram
called Logic they were very nice to deal with at the time, they actually gave me my money back
I have never actually used Logic it in any shape or form,(software and life:)
the environment seems a bit convoluted and the work flow seems much different then what i am used to but it does look like an interesting Software package.
I do think competition is good, especially if all of the companies keep trying to deliver an improved product to the market place.

I guess that would require that I buy Logic, which as yet escapes logic for me.

Thanks for the clarification James. I'm not sure who it was that went over the line, but I didn't read the whole thread, and since I've been away for a while and may have missed the memo, I was unsure whether your comment meant Logic discussion is against forum policy.James Steele wrote:Not off limits... especially in compare and contrast posts. Re: Apple did it again - Logic 9
The Gearslutz link leads to another link on the Logic Pro Help board, and posts there indicate that Logic 9 is identified as "Universal" in its "Get Info" window, and that it will indeed work on a PPC machine. The caveat is that Apple doesn't support PPC anymore, so if you run into trouble with Logic 9 on a PPC Mac, you're on your own.kgdrum wrote:a thread I saw on Gearslutz might be an interesting thread to follow for PPC users, according to the OP this simple hack will allow PPC users to use L9.

I'm going to get it, along with Cubase 5, because I get clients who bring me Cubase or Logic projects to finish. And Pro Tools projects saved as OMF files will open right away in Logic.
