Does anyone have MIDI GS Wavetable playback?

Post by Iceblade »

Hey guys,

So I went through a complete reinstall of WinXP SP3 on a new hard drive. I also installed 3.6.7.4 drivers and the AVT 1394 drivers with my Traveler Mk 1. I had to actually enable the AC97 audio hardware on my mobo in order to be able to even see the Microsoft GS Wavetable option for MIDI playback and according to the options, I am sending the digital output from that to my MOTU Traveler via MOTU Analog 1-2. I have WAV playback working well, however, I don't hear anything at all when playing MIDI tracks. My understanding was that the GS Wavetable option played actual wave table samples from the harddrive and sent them to my MOTU unit so I could hear them out of my audio monitors. Am I misunderstanding something here? I can't think of anything else to try to get MIDI playback working through the analog outs on the MOTU, so if anyone can tell me:
1.) Should I have the ability to do this? or
2.) If I should, am I doing something wrong?

That would be great! Thanks for any help you can throw my way!

Regards,
Jeff

If I understand you properly, the GS sound fonts are only for MIDI enabled sound devices(has it's own sound module), which the the MOTU units do not have. Routing it through the AC97 card would be the way I'd do it if I didn't have a couple other sound modules and some programs with softsynths.

THANK YOU, Mark! I was not aware of that. I erroneously though that the GS Wavetable was more than just soundfonts and actually contained the sample data needed for playback. I was thinking this was for people who did not have hardware wavetable as part of their soundcards. Thanks for solving the mystery for me!
