What do you mean by compatible? Do you mean meets the minimum requirements stated by MOTU? If so, those are very easy specs to check at the two sites as CPU and RAM are always up-front for bragging rights.

As for whether it would run well, considering that I am doing fairly well with DP 6.02 on my ancient PPC G4 iMac, I hardly see that any current MacBook would be overly challenged by everyday tasks and at least moderate plug-in usage.

If you need to know the limit before you have to freeze tracks, that's harder to estimate. I'm not really clear on what your concern is.

I've found the MOTU Firewire interfaces to be trouble-free and good sounding. The 828MkIII is a sweet piece. I've got the MkII, and it has been flawless for me for years! You will need an adaptor to convert the Firewire 800 jack on the Macbook to the Firewire 400 jack on the interface, but this is not a big deal... check Monoprice.com for all your cable needs. Great prices, and reasonable shipping make it a killer supplier.

AFAIK, the new 13" MacBook does not provide FireWire connection, only USB.
That would be a deal breaker for me.

I run DP6 on a 3 years old white 1.83 MacBook every day. With no VIs and DP stock plugins, the sky is the limit.
It handles some third party VIs and plugins very well, but others may bring it to his knees on low buffer settings though.

He said the 15-inch though, not the 13-inch.

As you can see, Toby's first post was 13" related, indeed.

Oh well, that's what I get for assuming consistency.

I didn't mean to be critical, as the info would benefit others anyway -- just wanted to make sure we also address the needs of the OP.

Apologies the mistake, this is my first time with Macbook and i need to help my partner with this:

We are to work by distance, he is a drummer and we would like to connect/record a V-Drum into a Macbook pro and DP6 and Duet or Motu interfase or Mbox 2 and Protools..
(just MIDI and sometimes audio but only drums)
Then he can export the MIDI files and send it to me via email, in my studio i can procesing the MIDI files thru Ocean Way Drums on my DP6..

So For our budget my question is if a macbook pro 15 inch 2.53 can work well with this plan to recording the V-DRUM.

Again apologies my bad english and all the confusing generated by that.

Thank you friends..

I think for what you need the 15" Macbook Pro would do well for you. The processing of it is quite a bit, and should be able to handle Ocean Way Drums well. What the others were concerned about would involve recording live audio, and they are correct, without the ExpressCard slot you would have problems more or less. If you are working to make MIDI files into drum audio, then the 15" Macbook Pro would do it in my opinion very well.

Don't apologize for your English, friend, this isn't the first time anyone has tried to help someone who was not native to a language- we all learn something from it. This is what the internet is for, to bring folks together who otherwise would not be able to. Let us know if there are any more questions, good luck, L

ALL of the new MacBook Pros, including the 13" model, have a Firewire 800 port. Only the 17" has an Express Card slot.
The MacBook (white) has Firewire 400.

DP will work on them all... you just get more throughput (VI's, Plug Ins, Tracks, etc) with the faster ones.
