828 not loading

I'm running DP5 on a Mac G4 w/828 firewire. Been using it for several years. All of a sudden when starting DP, the 828 will not load and the prompt says MIDI only selected. I go into the audio/MIDI setup and select MOTU 828 and it will still not respond. Checked all the cables and all is fine. I always have the 828 "on" before I start DP and the MOTU firewire console is loaded on my desktop. Anyone got an idea as to whazzup?

Could it be a blown Firewire port on either the Mac or the 828?
Do you have another computer you can use to test the 828, or a Firewire device to test the Mac?

Not sure how to check for a blown port. Unfortunately I don't have another computer to test the 828. If a blown port is the case, does that mean that while the 828 console shows up on the desktop, the rest of the data is not being transmitted to DP?

I suppose I could spend some bucks on a new cable, but it might be a waste if that's not the problem.
