No inputs registering on MOTU 24i/o - i'm desperate!

Post by JamesLB »

Hello,

I help run a community music studio for young people, but after reconnecting the equipment we are having problems recording. Unfortunately our studio engineer is away at Glastonbury so I'm on my own here trying to fix it.

I've checked all the connections, and they're all connected securely (it was the engineer who handled the wiring, so this was done correctly).

I've spent hours trying everything (re-installing drivers, re-securing PCI card within the computer, reseting/restoring defaults) - but no luck.

This is the basic situation (I am running Cubase):

When "PCI-424 Analog 1-24 22 [vsl out]" is set, - sound wont come out of that channel on the mixing desk. And doesn't register on the MOTU unit itself. However, moving the" VSL Out" to another channel, enables the setup of stereo-out, and is detected on the MOTU unit, the desk and PC Speakers. So the output works ok.

When attempting to record, levels are shown on desk, sound comes out of the speakers, but nothing is registered on the MOTU unit or within Cubase.

Any help would be massively appreciated. I'm having to turn young people away who've been rehearsing and preparing for weeks for their studio time.

It's unusual to be using ASIO4ALL with your MOTU device. Try selecting a MOTU driver in the Device Setup -> VST Audio System window. Once you do this check your VST Connections -> Inputs and the Outputs as well to make sure they're still configured properly.

Also, make sure that the individual channel routing within Cubase is correct.

Why were things taken apart in the first place?
