Adding the Ultralite MK3 to my Studio

Post by Hnau »

Okay, so here's the setup:
I had previously been using the Alesis Photon x25 as a MIDI/audio interface for my studio, and it crapped out on me. I have purchased an Ultralite Mk3 for upgraded audio processing and will use one of my synths as a MIDI controller for now. Here is my question: Does it seem like a bad idea to run my Mackie 1402 VLZ 10-Channel mixer through the MOTU device. My plan was to route the main outs of the Mackie into the balanced inputs (I was thinking 3-4) on the Ultralite, and have the Ultralite running out to my monitors. The reason that I want to run the Mackie through the MOTU is because I need at least 10 inputs for the amount of hardware that I use. I have never gotten into softsynths, and always just buy rackmounts and stand alone synths, as well as hardware drum machines, effects, and samplers, so I require more inputs than the 6 on the MOTU. I just ran my Mackie into the Alesis interface and it seemed to work out just fine, so I want to do the same with the Ultralite, though it doesn't seem to have any dedicated main audio ins. I thought I could use XLR cables, but the Mackie's main XLR outs are balanced left and right, and the MOTU doesn't have two XLR inputs in the back of the device that would be controlled together through Cuemix, so I think I'll have to use 1/4 inch cables to get the job done. Any objections to such a set up? Does this seem like the right interface for me?
