one is asio, one is WDM. Different driver modes. I find that the one that works better depends on the hardware it's on. Asio has some hardware device limitations that wdm hasn't. That's putting it briefly.

I too have had a significant share of driver headaches with my Cubase 5 and 896HD. Currently it is still running the older drivers and running well. I am SO GUN SHY at this point and after reading theses posts carefully, I think I am going to wait a few more months to see if the durability of this release holds up. The last failure of the 3.6.8.1400 drivers cost me nearly 5 weeks of down time and that is just unacceptable. I don't earn a living from this and I feel for those who do...

I've been struggling with my 8pre for about a year now. I had some down time between projects and decided to really get under the hood and get my recording rig right and tight. I installed the 3.6.8.1410 drivers yesterday and so far it seems to have fixed all my unresolved glitches! :D

Before I say how happy I am with the MOTU software team let me say this...

I only got it working with the help from the people on this forum. From the SP1/SP2 driver swaps, to the third party AVT firewire drivers, to the graphics card interupt conflicts, to the step by step registry edits. The people who post real working solutions to motunation are frigg'n champs. Seriously you guys rock.

And finally MOTU has released some working drivers. So kudos to them too. I guess...

I know this post really isn't contributiong much other than to say that the .1410 drivers are working for me. But that's after a lot of other tweaking.

Mainly I just wanted to say thanks to all the people who are helping out on this forum. You fixed my MOTU.
Hugs and kisses.
