But having said that, I have two systems with VIA chipsets for the firewire that work fine. Give it a whirl. The worst you'll need to do is buy a 35$ card that has as TI chpset in it.

Hi yeti:

Here is a good card:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/ADS-Tech-PY ... 1391105.gc $40 bucks at Guitar Center, but

Only $30 bucks at the ADS site: http://www.adstechnologies.com/index.ph ... ucts_id=17

Thank you HotShot... but Mark means a Firewirecard for 35 Bucks is not good?
Why?

I don't think he means a $35 card is a poor card. I think what he is saying is that the original poster would possibly need to buy a firewire card (which cost around $35 bucks), if the Ricoh chipset doesn't work with his MOTU unit.

In other words, the OP wont die if the Rioch chipset doesn't work with his MOTU. The worst that could happen is that he would have to buy a firewirecard.

I'm sure this is what Mark means, but he can clarify his statement because he comes around regularly.

Anyway, I'm telling you the card I gave a link to is a good card (not the best but sufficient). Also the ADS site has more expensive firewire cards, so you can get one of those if you want to spend more money on a card than the one I posted.
