My composer/employer is wrestling with several problems related to his recent DP6 upgrade:
Initial Specs-
PPC Dual 2.5Ghz_4.5GB SRAM
Newly installed Internal Drive-931.39GB
OSX 10.4.10
Digital Performer 6.0.2
4 SATA Drives for soft synths, and a separate music firewire drive for DP sessions.
Recent History-
The computer’s hard drive had failed and has been recently replaced. The previous internal contents were restored from a back up system (which had been in place).
After serial number authorization issues with DP5, we made the transition to DP 6 (Clean install).
Current Problems-
DP6 (Never any problems in DP5)
- Feedback loop when bouncing audio files to disk- a phase problem results since this also reduces the output of the bounced file (especially low frequency information). No physical equipment change had been made, so it may be a software interface/handshake issue.
- Playback of MIDI tracks sputters unless the actual soft synth window is in the foreground of the DP session. Also, soft synth does a complete “reload” each time a new record track is being accessed.
- Just stepping away from a DP session for a short time and returning to attempt playback will result in a 20 to 30 second “beach ball spin out” until it finally starts.
- CPU Usage window unexpectedly comes up with the levels near maximum levels.
- Altiverb is not recognized as a usable plug-in, although it is installed and authorized.
- Audio allocation warning window will randomly appear and have to be manually acknowledged in order to resume playback (without any setting changes).
Recent Troubleshooting-
- Tried toggling Receive Sync, Dithering, and Bit Rate values without resolution.
- Noticed session is set to Broadcast Wave/ 16 bit Integer in Preference General Audio, yet Audio Bounce Settings were set to Core Audio AIFF 24 bit PPC- would this cause conflict?
- CPU performance spikes noticed even when sequence is stopped. Also spikes during bounces.
- Repair Permissions and standard maintenance have all been completed.
Please let us know if there are any other suggestions based on this information.
Thanks.

Call MOTU tech support. You see to have enough problems for your own section here. IOW, TMI!
You might break down the problems and post them in specific section. No one I know of is going to answer all your concerns - except MOTU tech support. But right off the bat, I'd say upgrade to the current OS for starters. Then test your RAM and drives and all hardware with the Hardware Test disk that came with the machine.

That says it all right there. If DP5 is working, then that's what I would use until I could afford to tweak and troubleshoot in DP6.js_nyc wrote: Current Problems-
