Missing Effects in DP 3.0

Post by Scripto-Vox »

I've recorded audio in dp 3.02 and went to DP mixing board to add effects. There aren't any. I used to be able to select from drop down menus, e-verb, compression, etc. None of that appears. I have 4 "insert" windows on the audio channel strip, but there are no effects there. Where can they have gone? Thanks, Ben

Dear Ben:

Welcome to the forum!

You are using a version of DP that is 7 years old. There's nothing at all wrong with that-- but DP6.02 was released just today for good reason.

Your situation raises some important questions which may help find some answers:

1. What computer model you are using?

2. What operating system version are you using (OS 9.?)?

3. How much RAM you might have

4. What versions of other music-related software are you using in conjunction with DP 3.02?

5. Whether or not you have installed or implemented any software which may be optimized for later hardware or software or even for OSX which might not be compatible with DP 3.02. One of the best versions of DP3 ever was v3.11 under 9.2.2. If a update to DP 6 is not likely for you, then an update to DP 3.11 really should be.

These updates truly take strides in addressing functionality issues. Some things you may be experiencing may already have been addressed by virtue of these updates. Please consider DP 3.11 at the very least.

But also keep in mind that finding complete information for DP 3 and OS9.x might take some time to assemble. There may be enough forum members who have enough pieces to your puzzle to offer, but it might also necessitate having you contacting MOTU directly for a more definitive solution.

In order to upgrade I first have to have something other than a 10-year old computer. I don't see how I can swing it all. Thanks, Ben

I should have mentioned that I'm using a Beige G3 minitower, and 9.0. Just out of curiosity, what MAC would be relatively inexpensive and still run the newest DP release?
Thanks, Ben

You know what, Ben? That's cool-- and it helps greatly.

I would suggest, if possible, upgrading to 9.2.2 on your current machine.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75186

Aside from that, I would recommend an Intel model-- which at this point are beginning to surface as used and refurbished machines. A 2.66 perhaps?

But the intent is not to convince you to spend money here. The purpose is to keep you up and running with what you have. WIth that said, I wouldn't attempt DP6.x on a G3.

The last Mac I had which ran OS9 was a G4 867 single CPU (I know there were later machines which ran OS9).

Also-- what's "relatively inexpensive" can only be "relative" to your personal budget. If you wanted to run DP6, there's an upgrade fee from DP3. Then, there's the cost of RAM and the cost of OSX. It gets expensive quickly.

As I said earlier, there's nothing at all wrong with running DP3 on a G3 in OS9.x. The important thing is to make sure you have it running smoothly.

So-- if the issue is that there aren't any DP FX, then there's a bigger problem. When you installed DP3 all the effects are part of the install. I would do an EASY INSTALL from disc to see if the essential files won't take care of themselves.

HI,
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH DP 5.13 AND LEOPARD… SOMETIMES AFTER RESTARTING THE COMPUTER IT'S OK … SOMETIMES NOT… SO I RESTART AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTILL IT'S OK SOMETIMES IT'S "TOMOROW".
I'M JUST TRYING DP 6.02… GUESS WHAT…? SAME PROBLEM
YESTERDAY, I OPENED A DP 6.02 PROJECT EQ'S AND PROVERB ARE MISSING: I RESTARTED 6 TIMES… (EVEN ALT+CMD+P+R)…
IF AN EQ WINDOW WAS ALREADY OPENED THE PLUGIN APPEARS ON THE SCREEN BUT NOT IN THE MIXING BOARD…
IF I WANT TO ADD A NEW PLUGIN, PARAEQ, MASTERWORKS EQ AND PROVERB ARE NOT IN THE LIST…
I COULD NOT WORK YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!! MAYBE TOMOROW?
I HOPE SOMEONE WILL HAVE A SOLUTION FOR US VERY SOON… BECAUSE I HAVE NO SOLUTION FROM MOTU.
BYE,
EDDY

Same thing here - DP 5.13 / Mac Pro 2.66 -> since a week now, Masterworks EQ plug-in has dissapeared from the dropdown menu on the channel strips!
(To make things complicated: there seems to be a '(mono)'-symbol in the channel strips menu's now however and that's able to get to show a MW EQ, but the plug-in cannot be saved nor re-opened...) I'm puzzled...

For what it is worth I just installed DP 3.11 on a Powermac 8100 A/V today. ( Well, ok, it is true that the powermac has a newertech G3 250mhz upgrade. This is a set-up that I put together to use mostly as a sample editing station with an old sampler.

I haven't done anything with the installation other than run the Chris Parks demo, which sounded just great.

I have a real fondness for old macs and you can indeed still get work done with them.

Anyway try Frodo's advice and do a fresh install, hopefully that should fix it up.

HI,
THE PROBLEMS REMAINS THE SAME WITH DP7.22 ... :(
BUT I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!! :woohoo:
IT COMES FROM THE LANGUAGE!
IF SELECTED LANGUAGE IS FRENCH,(YES I'M FRENCH) THE PROBLEM OCCURS.
IF I SELECT ENGLISH IN SYSTEM PREFERENCES BEFORE LAUNCHING DP EVERYTHING'S OK.
MAYBE IT'S THE SAME WITH OTHER LANGUAGES...
