Still won't sound as good a 2" studer and a neve desk, but you'll be able to run 3000 plugins on each track, so that something I suppose......hammerman wrote:I'm holding out for 128 bit. Now THAT will be exciting!

Re: 64 Bit DP
amen. and having 64 bit makes working with 64bit plugins less CPU intensive. I have so many tracks when doing a film and so much loaded into ram.flashman wrote:I completely understand the why 64 bit question. I work on film stuff with very large sample loads and massive projects with lots of chunks, 100's of tracks, a total of 10gbs of samples loaded spread over 4 machines and the 32 bit RAM limit is a very real issue. I think to be honest it is a fairly specific group of people who are interested in 64 bit but once Apple let Snow Leopard loose all kinds of things will come along to take advantage of it and within no time there will once again be that great divide. Remember going from OS9 to OSX? PPC to Intel?
I once did a show in 5.1 live using a combination of many many instruments, samples, pre recorded tracks, ambiances, plug ins up the wazoo. I'm still removing some.
Re: 64 Bit DP
Things just spiral out of control. Just doing a show with loads of stems I've almost run out of buses so what it would be like doing a film with 5.1 stems I dread to think.

You are using near 99 buses???

99 busses? That's gota leave a carbon footprint.

Re: 64 Bit DP
This is not entirely correct. In the 64 bit mode Intel processors have twice as many registers available comparing to the 32 bit mode and in theory it should save some time addressing data in RAM. As for the CPU-intensive tasks like DSP the advantage is not in 64 bits but in less time spent shuffling data back and forth between CPU registers and cache/RAM.bootsncats wrote: amen. and having 64 bit makes working with 64bit plugins less CPU intensive.
