896mk3 Sonar Softsynth problem

Post by jackasspenguin »

I've been working with this interface for a week now trying to get it to work correctly. I'm using Sonar 7 now. The problem I'm having is when I'm trying to use a softsynth such as Demension LE. When I select the synth in the MIDI output drop down menu I start to hear the synth and I can see the meter move in the corresponding audio track where I loaded the Deminsion into. Then, when I record enable the audio track the meter stops and of course there is no audio being recorded.

I don't remember eve having this problem with the old 896 I had. That machine worked like a champ. I'm using the 192kHz driver when doing this. Would that cause a problem? It seems to really freak out my computer when I change the drivers from 44k to 192. I'd love to be able to start using this thing. Any help would be splendid! Thanks!

You shouldn't be record enabling the synth's audio track. You should arm record the synth's MIDI track and press R to record the MIDI to the MIDI track. Then, if you want to record the MIDI to audio, convert your softsynth tracks to audio . See the Help file under the Tutorials section for detailed instructions on Converting Your Soft Synth Tracks to Audio.

In my experience, many patches in Dimension LE and Dimension Pro are become all distorted when using sample rates over 48 kHz. To minimize this problem, use 44.1 or 48 kHz sample rates when using Dim LE or Dim Pro.

You can also contact Cakewalk and voice your discontent for this issue of Dim LE not working well at sample rates above 48 kHz.
May a song always touch you in a possitive way!

OK,

It's been a long time since I've messed with this stuff. For some reason I thought you could record the softies on the fly but now I remember that you have to export or convert them. Thanks for the riminder. That seems to work much better now. I guess it can only perform one process at a time, playback or record.

I just got this Mk3. I've never used a 192kHz sampling rate recorder before. I don't really understand all the dos and dont's.

Thanks a bunch, I'll post a new thread with some other questions. :D
