CHANGING BPM/TEMPO MOVES AUDIO???

Post by mellotron »

Hello, I'm importing wav files from a big studio Pro tools session into my home DP set up. I forgot to set the grid/tempo to the click tempo of the 1st song before importing. Now when I type in the right BPM the audio tracks get knocked all over the place by several measures. In the past I've adjusted the grid to match the audio many times without this happening??? Is it a setting in my new template that needs to be switched so only the grid moves when I change the BPM? It seems like something basic that I should already have a grasp on, but it took 2 hours to load in all the drum tracks, overdubs etc... and I don't want to have to start over.

Thanks in advance! :D

Lock your audio tracks on the Tracks Overview window and then change the tempo

The default state of an audio track in Pro Tools is equivalent to a 'locked' track in DP (as in referenced to absolute time rather than the bars/beats).

Just another example of the opposite development paths of Pro Tools and DP. DP started as a sequencing app, therefore it is more musically oriented at heart. Pro Tools started as an audio app, hence the more "audio engineer" approach to working.
