828Mkii firewire Main metering problem

Post by Squidward »

Help!

My main meters on 828MkII firewire have suddenly started acting differently. They used to show the correct levels independently of the interface’s volume setting, but now they only show the correct metering value when the interface volume is at 0db. It is like they have gone from a pre-fader reading to a post-fader one! Anyone else seen this and/or know how to get it back to normal.

I’ve tried restoring factory defaults and a different cable and the same thing occurs on the Mac and the PC. Nothing else seems to have changed.

I'm fairly sure that the main output meters have always been post-main volume control.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

Hi InputOutput

I had that thought as well, but i'm (almost!) certain that they are behaving differently now, (unless I turn the the MOTU volume to 0db and turn my monitors right down).

How is it possible that the meters would be pre-fader one day and post-fader the next day? Do you believe in evil spirits? If there were some malfunction happening, surely it would be much less sensible.

okay :D :D :D I know what you are saying, it might be that I'm going mad. This happened after I lent the unit to a friend and I had to question myself whether it had changed but, the more I think about it the more I'm convinced it is metering differently. If people with 828's reply and tells me I'm wrong on this then I apologise - anyone seeing this differently?

You can accept the simplest answer, which is that you're mistaken. Or you can believe that somehow the interface is malfunctioning in such a unique, unusual way that the only "problem" is that the position of the meters in the signal flow has changed while every other aspect of the interface continues to work normally…
