Mac Pro 2.26GHz 8-Core vs.2.66GHz Quad vs previous 8-Core?

Post by Chao »

I read some speed tests for Mac Pro 2.26GHz 8-Core, 2.66GHz Quad-Core, but mostly they used Photoshop or video software for comparisons. For the money, I can also buy a previous generation refurbished 2.8GHz 8-Core. So which one is the fastest for DP6? And which one has the best value?

BTW, I wonder why iMac does not use a Quad-Core CPU? I can understand Apple uses similar laptop parts to drive the cost down, but Quad-Core CPU is not very expensive and it's popular in PC.

The 2.66 Quad (the new one) is quicker than all of them untill software takes advantage or multi core processes. Mathmatica gets a better bench with the octals because it's written for muliple cores. The new archetecture of the Nehalem uses the faster DDR3 ram more efficiently too.

Thanks! But I read some of the posts, someone said DP runs on all 8 cores. Doesn't that mean it take advantages of the extra 4 cores?
