I am looking for some help with a new computer added to the studio...
I have been using an 828 MKII with a Presonus Digimax LE connected via lightpipe (clocked through the ADAT port of the digimax) on my G5.
I recently bought an iMac and have moved everything over. Now I am wondering what to do with the old G5. I am hoping to use it as a second machine to do processing with, and want to connect it to the iMac.
Initially I thought I would take the digital out from the G5 and use the S/PDIF on the back of the MOTU, but I have learned that the TOSLINK can't connect to the coaxial (RCA) connector of the MOTU. I thought maybe I could buy and adapter or converter, but am not sure of this option.
Then I considered using Audio over LAN. AUNetSend and AUNetRecieve don't work well in DP5.13, so I tried Wormhole 2, but that didn't work either...was getting sound, but it cut out every 10 seconds or so (after settings were adjusted that was the best I could get.)
So now I am considering getting a dedicated audio interface for the G5 that can send S/PDIF to the 828. However, I am not sure of the clocking and how I would set masters/slaves etc. The Digimax doesn't have the S/PDIF, only the ADAT connection, the G5 interface I buy probably won't have BNC wordclock as I don't want to spend too much...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What are others doing.
Inevitably I would like to have samplers, Amplitube for guitar effect processing, etc, on the G5 and have the audio sync with the other tracks on the iMac. How are others doing this?
Thanks.

I did the same thing. I moved from DP5 to Logic. The two machines connect through ethernet. The G5 runs a program called Logic Node, and the imac runs Logic, connects to the G5 through a local network, and uses the G5 for processing plugs. Works great, except I can't use the Powercore PCI installed on the G5. The plugs have to be installed on both machines i.e. amplitube on both, logic plugs on both, etc. But it's really cool. Exactly like I thought Wormhole would be.
