Strange behaviour of my Ultralite mk3

Post by reflective »

Hello,

just bought an Ultralite mk3... I want to use the S/PDIF output to feed my ERGO(KRK). I set the routing in Ableton Live 8.0.1, running Windows XP Pro SP3, as following:

1/2 -> Outputs 1/2 are reproducing the sound.
3/4 -> Outputs 3/4 are reproducing the sound.
5/6 -> Outputs 5/6 are reproducing the sound.
7/8 -> Outs 7/8 are reproducing the sound.
9/10 -> Headphones are reproducing the sound.
11/12 -> Strange: The Main outputs are reproducing a horrible sound (like unmatching samplerates).
13/14 -> The Main outputs are reproducing the sound.

Where is my S/PDIF output? I tried almost everything (driver reinstallation, registry cleaning, etc....)

Normally Ableton counts the outputs of the MOTU devices like this:

Headphones use outputs 1-2
Analog 1-8 are output to ports 3-10
The Main Outs are ports 11 and 12
S/PDIF uses outputs 13 and 14

Btw: I also have a Traveler mk3 here... Everything is functionally as expected when I connect the Traveler...
After all these troubles (countless ours and days) and without a expedient hint from tech support (ableton and motu) I will return both of the devices...Also disgusting: The Motu driver produces almost 2000 registry entries.
Maybe RME has got something suitable... :?:

I have the same problem with Cubase : the ASIO port names are shifted (and nothing's linked to the S/PDIF output).
Here's the ticket I just sent to the support :
« Hi. I purchased that MOTU UltraLike-mk3 yesterday. No problem installing it (I even didn't have to install the TI chipset IEEE1394 pci board I purchased too : it's working fine with my motherboard embedded VIA chipset), and it's sounding great (I'll use it to record bass & sing at home, and as a microphone/preamp/effect + mains comp on stage).

But I'm having a little bug using your ASIO driver : the names of the outputs are shifted. I'm using Cubase Essential v4.5.2 (with Windows XP SP3 English ; it's perfectly configured and running : I'm a computer engineer, and used to be a programmer).
And if I want to output to MAINS OUT, I have to set the output to the port named "S/PDIF 1-2 13" and "S/PDIF 1-2 14". And so on, all outputs are shifted :

ASIO port name / real MOTU output
"S/PDIF 1-2 13" = MAINS OUT 1 (Left)
"S/PDIF 1-2 14" = MAINS OUT 2 (Right)
"Main Out 1-2 1" = ANALOG OUT 1
"Main Out 1-2 2" = ANALOG OUT 2
"Analog 1-2 3" = ANALOG OUT 3
"Analog 1-2 4" = ANALOG OUT 4
"Analog 3-4 5" = ANALOG OUT 5
"Analog 3-4 6" = ANALOG OUT 6
"Analog 5-6 7" = ANALOG OUT 7
"Analog 5-6 8" = ANALOG OUT 8
"Analog 7-8 9" = PHONES 1 (Left)
"Analog 7-8 10" = PHONES 2 (Right)
"Phones 1-2 11" = ANALOG OUT 2 again (!?)
"Phones 1-2 12" = nothing (no meter is moving)

(which means I can't output to S/PDIF)

Or, if you prefer, when I wan't a specific output, I have to set this port :

MOTU output / ASIO port name
MAINS OUT 1 (Left) = "S/PDIF 1-2 13"
MAINS OUT 2 (Right) = "S/PDIF 1-2 14"
ANALOG OUT 1 = "Main Out 1-2 1"
ANALOG OUT 2 = "Main Out 1-2 2"
ANALOG OUT 3 = "Analog 1-2 3"
ANALOG OUT 4 = "Analog 1-2 4"
ANALOG OUT 5 = "Analog 3-4 5"
ANALOG OUT 6 = "Analog 3-4 6"
ANALOG OUT 7 = "Analog 5-6 7"
ANALOG OUT 8 = "Analog 5-6 8"
PHONES 1 (Left) = "Analog 7-8 9"
PHONES 2 (Right) = "Analog 7-8 10"
(and I can't ouput to S/PDIF)

That's quiet disturbing.
Is there a quick fix for that ?

Thanks ! :) »

My workaround for now : I rename the displayed port names in Cubase. But it's a pain to have to do it on all my projects ...

Hello,

I also got in touch with KLEMM which is the german agency of MOTU. After some mails they confirmed me that the driver 32fw-3.6.8.1400 has got a major bug. I don't want to stuck with the shipped and working driver, I bought this device also because of the new features which are only accessible with the new driver. It's ridiculous because the driver is on their download page since 2009/03/11 and no update since then although the driver is known as faulty since then (one day later)!

I also own a Traveler mk3, everything is fine with the driver there, only the Ultralite mk3 causes troubles... :? Since I don't belive in a quick fix, I returned my Ultralite back to the dealer (Thank god for 30 days of "MoneyBack" :D !)

@Zetmor: Have you ever got a response from MOTU!?!

BTW: I'm working on Ableton Live, it isn't possible to rename the displayed port names there... :(
