Ultralite as a normal soundcard. MP3, cd etc.

Post by gummy »

Hi,
I have a new Ultralite serving as my only soundcard and can't figure out how to get good sound during "normal" soundcard use ie. playing a cd, mp3 or youtube vids etc. You guys are not using multiple cards are you? What configuration do you use in cuemix? Are you assigning computer output to analog outputs and then assigning eq or assigning to main outs 1 and 2? When I use mains 1 and 2, the sound is "tinny" and weak. When I assign to analog outs it is tinny and weak but I can add eq. It still does not sound as good as my computer's onboard sound though. I keep hearing rave reviews of the sound this card offers and would love to experience it for myself. Would anyone please offer your settings so I can try them and compare?

Tinny and weak? Mine is head-blowingly LOUD.

Good luck getting any answers on here. And, oh, don't bother with the MOTU support, its the worst - by some distance - support in the business. Bar none.

:) Thanks. I posted to the Ableton.com board and am getting some love there. SO far 6 replies. I guess several people there use the Ultralite. It just so happens I have Ableton live as well. Of course so far it looks like nobody believes the unit can sound bad so I have to convince them somehow that I really am hearing something I feel is strange.

Sorry to sound so negative yesterday. I had so many problems setting up the Ultralite, with absolute **** service from the support, that to finally get it to work only to have my head blown off ... aghhhh!!

Anyhow, the sound I get for PC sounds and CDs is fine, and (as I said ;-)) very loud. Sounds like your problem is the opposite of mine. I have set the sound playback in the PC to route to MOTU Analog 7-8, and it works. The "monitor" button for that output needs to be lit, an then the monitor level can then be controlled with the monitor level pot in the top right.

If your sound is tinny and worse than your on-board soundcard, then that is not right. I don't know if you already did this, but my problesm came from first loading the drivers from the supplied CD - these did not work. Getting more recent ones off the web site finally worked, but only after a struggle getting rid of all the remains of the "old" ones. So, first stop is to be sure a) You have the most recent drivers and b) You have completely uninstalled all trace of the odl ones (if you did install those).

I figured out that my problem was a motherboard issue. THe onboard is bad too. THanks for the time. I am glad your issues are getting better as well.
