In the past 12 months I changed from an ISA soundcard based recording system (using the MIDI I/O of the soundcards to control external devices) to a Firewire/USB based system, using a USB version MOTO MIDI Express XT to control the external devices (purchased 2nd hand from eBay).
One of the key pieces of equipment in my setup is a 1986 PPG Wave 2.3. The Wave 2.3 had a few problems back in 2002, but it was working fine in the old ISA soundcard MIDI system.
When running a project in Cubase the Wave 2.3 changes it's tone. The only thing I can think of that's different between the old & new setup, is the MOTU MIDI Express XT.
Does anyone know of the reliability of the MOTU MIDI Express XT, or is there something fundamental that I'm missing.
Don't get me wrong, the device plays the sequences the way they're supposed to, but it's only the Wave 2.3 that's displaying this mysterious behaviour.
All suggestions are welcome!

Re: USB MOTU MIDI Express XT & PPG Wave 2.3
By changing tone, do you mean the patches are changing on the Wave? If that's the case, try turning off patch change on the MOTU or the Wave (one at a time) and see what happens.
What was the problem the Wave had 7 years ago? If you could tell us we might be able to figure something out. It's totally possible the MIDI interface in the Wave has gone bonkers - after all it is 23 years old and MIDI is only 4 years older than that.

Re: USB MOTU MIDI Express XT & PPG Wave 2.3
Yeah, sorry... I wasn't very clear with that. The changes in tone are not patch changes.
It's almost as if the PPG is receiving random CC messages. The Wave will receive the following;
Waves - CC #2
Filter cutoff - CC #4
And these are the two types of changes in tone that I'm hearing - like one (or more) of the parameters are changing.
The fault in 2002 was (I believe) power related. The PCB's were sent to Virtual Music (Austria) for a full service.
The changes in tone don't occur unless I'm running a Cubase project, using the (USB) MOTU MIDI Express XT for the MIDI I/O.
It'd be nice to be able to accurately monitor the data from the Express XT, without using another MIDI PC (or similar).
