OMF Broken IN DP 6.02?

Post by supersonic »

Hello,

I'm not able to import a standard OMF project from Final Cut Pro. DP crashed every time. Has anyone else seen this?

OMF has worked seamlessly for me between logic and DP

Maybe check the settings in FC pro

It doesn't work for me in DP6 either, I have tried it many times, what I have to do is import it in DP 5.13 quit the program and then open the file again in DP6. Very annoying, but it seems to be the only way at least for me.

Did you install DP 5 on the same system as DP 6? I trashed mine when I installed 6

Aren't we supposed to be able to open FCP directly in DP6 without OMF via XML?

I just re-read that last sentence and almost didn't understand it.

Yes. I also asked for the XML file but I'm having an unresolved pathurl issue. The XML audio file path is absolute instead of relative and I haven't managed to successfully change the data path in the xml file yet.

What works is opening the OMF in protools (m-powered with digitranslator in my case) and re-exporting that OMF. This will open in DP without problems.

I have opened OMF files form FCP for 3 one hour shows in the last month on 6.02 and there were no problems at all.

I'm glad it worked for you. My DP never managed to go past the crash. As soon as I put the pro tools saved OMF it does though. Was this an embedded OMF?

Yes it was, it was output without levels and pan, if that makes any difference. I have never had a problem with an OMF exported from Final Cut. I've been mixing TV shows for the last four years to the tune of 20 shows per year , in addition to various commercial and corporate projects without a hiccup. I've generally used whatever the latest version of DP is available and the latest FCP. With all the other little problems Dp and /or FCP has had, this is the one thing that has been a constant. Other than a corruption somewhere or possibly a corrupt pref file I can't imagine where to look to hunt down this problem. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

It is a strange situation, I have two computers, a G5 running Tiger and a Macbook pro on Leopard. I cannot open OMFs from FCP in neither of them using DP6.02 (I have tried several times with different projects), I have to use DP 5.13 as a bridge.

I have had the same problem. I cannot open an OMF in DP6 or 5. I have PT8 with digitranslator and tried everything to get it to open in DP6 and 5. Funny I can open in DP4 but if they are wav files it will not open because DP did not support that format for that vers.

No OMFs in DP 6 for me either. Sure, an OMF from another DAW might work, but not fron any video programs that have been sent to me.

AAF, OTOH, does work and work well. It seems MOTU cannot get them to both work at the same time. DP 5 did OMFs but not AFFs (as noted above). DP 6 is the reverse. I like AAFs anyway. Keeps the fades.

FWIW, OMF import from pro tools crashes DP 6.02 on my new Nehalem cpu Mac, but DOES work on an older G5. Sort of. It is an OMF session with linked audio files. These files need to be imported by hand, a real mess.
