Bob, there is a HUGE difference between DP 6.0 and 6.02. They fixed a lot of things. I'm waiting for the ARIA engine with GPO. Not a NI fan at all:(

I went as far as 6.01 on my G5, and from what I've read, some G5/Leopard users are reporting the same issues I had last summer. So I'm staying put for now.

This is an interesting topic for me. I've just retired my G4 powerbook 'cause it couldn't keep up with the simplest tasks. Tomorrow I get my 2.66 Macbook Pro and I'm wondering if I should stick with DP 4.6.1 or move on up to DP 6. My needs are really pretty modest for a mobile solution as I'm just mostly capturing tracks live. 4 at a time right now but I want to be able to handle maybe 16 with my Metric Halo interfaces. All editing and mixing will be done back home on my G5. (but now that I think about it the Macbook Pro is probably more powerful than my 2x2.5 G5)

Anyway........ how's 4.6.1 running on the Macbook Pros these days? Or should I just head on up to 6?

Thanks,

Ps hard to believe that you could squeeze more CPU out of LE. A better reason might be because of the audio editing workflow.

Well it's update time as 4.61 is NOT intel compliant or Leopard compliant.

Version 5.11 upwards is.

You won't regret it, believe me

Ps I was a big fan of 4.61 and it was extremely stable on my PB but the thought of going back makes me shudder

FYI, Version 5.13 is recommended for Leopard. Version 5.12 just flat out WON'T work with Leopard. Interestingly, Version 5.11 *will* also work with Leopard, but doing so is something of a work-around as it's not intended for Leopard. Additionally between versions 5.11 and 5.13, MOTU made a slight change to how audio files are named, conforming to conventional filename extensions, etc., So you really want to use 5.13 if you don't want to go all the way to DP 6.02. However, if you don't already have the version 5 upgrade, it may not be available any more.

Yep, might as well go all the way to 6 as long as I'm headed in that direction. Now if I can just find my serial #. Apparently the key code isn't cutting it and they did not write it on the inside page of my manual. I'll just have to call them in the AM. Thanks for the help guys.

Boy, you weren't kidding. I woke up this AM with a response and a solution. Thanks for the tip. I would've been doing the old re-dial hop for sure.

I've upped to 6. Should be fun. Wider Tacks Overview. YES! Track folders. YES!

Thanks folks,

I'm running DP 6 on a Dual 1.8 G5 with 3 gigs of RAM. Comparing my previous release (4.12) to DP 6.2, I think the instabilities created by the increased CPU demands are pretty much offset by DP's more graceful handling of conditions that used to lead to certain crashes. E.g., rapid windowing moves in DP 4.12 would usually cause a beach ball that ALWAYS led to a crash. In DP 6, rapid windowing moves are less likely to cause a beach ball, and even when you get a beach ball, it sometimes recovers. There are more crashes just from CPU overload, for obvious reasons, but it feels like a wash, overall.

Given the cool functionality leaps I gained in my upgrade, I'm quite happy. If only DP had an auto-save feature...
