SOLVEDReinstall OS, new drive, AUs not working (help!)

Post by jeremyscott49 »

So my main drive kicked the bucket this weekend. Well, the finder stopped working properly and after testing a few things I decided to replace the drive and reinstall os x (10.4.11). Luckily all projects are on separate drives. I was able to start my computer as a hard drive with my laptop, and cloned the old drive. Once I had everything updated, the applications looked fine. I open performer and it asks for the CD and registration. Fine.
But when I open a project, it couldn't find any of my plug ins (including the motu ones). I moved the folder from preferences, and now I can open the Motu plugs and all my VST plugs through VST Wrapper, which is great, but something isn't working with my AU plugs. Specifically:
Autotune extensions are missing (I have the ilok so maybe just have to reinstall)
Altiverb doesn't show up (I did challenge/response not ilok).
UAD plugs don't appear.
Third party AU plugs don't show up (I have a lot of these too).
Can anyone point me in the right direction....I know other folks have gone through this. I know I can get in touch with Audioease have them walk me through, but is there a quick way to copy files/folders from the old system files (I did archive and install)?
I can access the old drive if I switch out my second drive...I just know it's 4+years old so didn't want to archive and install on it. But I do have the old system files on my new hard drive too....just don't know what to switch.
I really really want to be able to open my mixes in the same way as before and am now two days behind and want to get working again asap.
Oh yeah, trashing AU prefs didn't help.

Ok I deleted a redundant folder and Altiverb works. I can use all my old clippings etc. Good. BUT it seems like DP won't recognize anything in my "components" folder. How can I get it to rescan or what should I do?

Yeah. The only problem seems to be this:
Noting in my "Components" folder is recognized. I even moved it, then reinstalled a plug (which created a new folder). That was not recognized either, so I put the old one back. Ideas?

Are the AU's in your root or user directory? Mine are in the root (HD>LIBRARY>AUDIO>PLUG-INS>COMPONENTS) and are working. I am guessing they may have ended up in the LIBRARY of your USER directory and thus may not be found. Is there more than one users on your machine? If so, check the other user directories. Repairing permissions after such a move would be a bad idea. I doubt it makes a difference, but it would hurt.

Yeah they're in the root (not user) directory. I did create a second dummy admin account when I was having finder/hd problems, but I don't think there's anything there. I'll check though...

Ok. Somehow now after restarting DP scanned the folder. My UAD plugs and pluggo didn't work, but I'm reinstalling now. I guess they have stuff in other places that didn't like the reinstall of OSX. Crossing my fingers that this works!

Don't know what changed really, but now all seems to be working. Thanks!
