MOTU Error 22

Post by Ultrabra »

I have Ultralite Mk3, Sound Forge 9.0, and Sonar.

On opening Sound Forge, with Sonar already open, I got this error message - can anyone help explain what it means and how to fix?

"The driver has reported a MOTU error 22.
Called from file ..\..\Glue\ConfigClasses.cpp line 223
Driver file error 22.\DriverHoster.cpp 2491"

When pressing OK a sencond message comes up :
Sony Sound Forge 9.0
An error occured while starting playback
A device is not available

Pressed OK then :
Sony Sound Forge 9.0
One or more audio playback devices does not support the current sample rate and/or bit-depth.
A device is not available.

This was my nightmare when I first tried MOTU driver 3.6.8.1394 with my 896mk1. It was a total no go. You'll have to uninstall your MOTU driver and any other left-over MOTU registry artifacts and install again.

For me it appeared to be a problem with the driver version, however an incomplete or incorrect installation seems to cause this as well.

Ouch! Thanks for letting me know.

How do I remove the "left-over MOTU registry artifacts"?

Now that I think about it, you should just try to power off the MOTUs, uninstall the driver, reboot, reinstall the driver, power on the MOTU. If you are getting the same issue then you should try the registry editing:

MOTU's uninstaller is pretty crappy. Even after an uninstall, there are lots of registry items left lingering around that will have an affect on future MOTU driver installations, especially if you're uninstalling one version to install a different one. It requires that you manually search through the registry deleting items where "motu" is mentioned. "mfwa" is another one. Anyway you should exercise extreme caution when using "regedit".

Crappy to say the least! Whenever I do this I end up removing about 900 references to MOTU. Now I'm sure much of that is Windows redundancies however, after the last time I did that I set a restore point.

Restore point is your friend.

I too had the same trouble deleting references to MOTU drivers and artifacts. I did search MOTU in Windows and found quite a few. I am still not sure that all were deleted. HOWEVER, reinstalling has not yet helped my 896HD
