Live can use the Wave driver instead. I don't think this problem happens with the Wave driver.

My setup is:

MOTU mkII with 3.6.8.1.1400 64-bit driver
Core i7 920 with 6 GB memory all at std voltages and frequencies
Windows Ultimate 64-bit, SP1
SONAR 8.3

Is there another version of the 64-bit driver available that works with the mkII? From all the previous posts it looks like there are a lot of problems. It probably also explains why the tech support folks aren'e answering any of my TechLinks posts.

As noted many of the post above mine the 3.6.8.1.1400 version has problems. However, some of my problems don't seem to be listed.

I didn't see my absolute biggest problem mentioned. The new CueMix DSP console doesn't work. I don't expect any of the DSP features to work; but I do need all four output buses that my old CueMix console had; and I need to be able select the outputs for each bus. Right now it's stuck on the Main Outputs. I can't see or adjust any of the other outputs. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a work-around or fix?

In fact, the only things working on the CueMix DSP console are the input faders, main output fader, input and main output mute buttons and the mono stereo toggle [though I haven't tested that yet]. Has everyone got this problem? Any suggestions?

If I use the ASIO drivers, portions of the I/O are scrambled. The Main Outputs move to Analog Outputs 1&2. There could be other problems. Switching to WDM/KS [WaveRT] solves that problem.

Also, the lowest sample buffer size with either set of drivers has increased from 32 to 96. Is this necessary?

Finally, all the sample rates above 48k show up as unavailable. Anyone know why?

Thanks.

That, my friend, depends upon the individual system. I have one that works better in WDM (amd ) and another that works better in asio (intel). Other things might affect that too such as mobo chipset,...

And I use Sonar.

Similar problems here:

MOTU mkII with 3.6.8.1.1400 64-bit driver (also tried 3.6.8.1394)
Core 2 extreme Q6850 with 4 GB memory all at std voltages and frequencies
Windows Ultimate 64-bit, SP1
SONAR 8.3

I have no sound output from any port (can't test ADAT at present)
CueMix doesn't work (If I change any setting after a pause CueMIx changes them back)

I have multibooted my set up, installed XP and cut down Vista 64 (everything possible disabled, no software or hardware installed except MOTU 828 and windows media player (to test).

Everything works fine with XP but the Vista 64bit installation is the same as my "bells ad whistles" installation - useless.

In two weeks I have had one technote reply (only after I complained to customer services). I doubt the technician read my notes because he asked if I had any pci cards installed and had I disabled the onboard audio - my notes said I had disabled just about everything. I, of course, replied promptly and politely, that was over a week ago..... nothing.

The UK distributor is doing his best and has suggested I take it to them for a test. I don't hold out much hope.

What has happened to this company ? A few years ago I had a problem with a 2408 and got fantastic tech service.

I just received a response from MOTU Tech Support that they have reproduced my problem and are working on a solution. So, it's wait and see.....

Does anyone have an older version of the 64-bit driver that will work with Vista and the mkII that they can make available to others?

I just went to 64-bit and Vista and don't have earlier drivers and don't know the history. I was expecting all the bugs to be gone. I've been humming along on 32-bit XP for the last 4 years, fat dumb and happy. Now, my projects, and SONAR 8, are such that my old system can't support it.

Thanks.

Bill Phillips and IanH:

If you haven't, check into the Sonar forum with this. Do some searches first but don't feel reluctant to check if if you're not there already.

Don't forget to check into the thread about 3rd party firewire drivers in the forum here too.

Thank you Mark, your help is very much appreciated.

I probably didn't make my self clear. In order to eliminate potential sources of problems I multibooted my system and installed a clean Vista 64 bit OS. I have not added any software ( e.g. Sonar) to this installation with the exception of the 828 drivers. I have disabled every piece of unnecessary hardware through BIOS and drivers. With the exception of graphics card it has no PCIe cards and the mouse / keyboard are PS2 connections.
My 828 is USB not firewire.

Nevertheless I will check out the links you suggest, I am grateful for any ideas.

Thanks once again.

Update

Found a thread on a general tweak forum (can't remember the url) which said that Gigabyte had issued a beta bios to cope with problems that DAW users had with latency peaks. Using the the DPC latency checker I found that my latency peaked at .8 milliseconds but was generally around .1 milliseconds. After updating the bios I found I had a near constant .05 milliseconds.

That gave me the confidence to intall SONAR 8 on my "bare" Vista 64 installation. My test project has a simple audio mp3 track. Sonar can play it without stopping audio or dropouts. Sound shows in the SONAR meters, but nothing at all comes out of the 828 and noe of the input lights flash at all.

I am going to upgrade SONAR to 8.3 and then check out the cakewalk forum. I will report back

EDIT : I did that and spent loads of time changing settings. Same problem. I gave up in the end - lost the will to live !!! Part of my multiboot setup is a 32 bit XP installation. This works fine, so I figured "what's the point in all off this, its not the hardware, it's the interaction between drivers and OS. Other companies seem to manage rock solid solutions (e.g. RME). I am going to wait for MOTU to sort this out (as mentioned in Bill Phillip's email). If they don't sort it out soon the 828 will go on EBAY and I will switch to RME.

Thanks Mark. I hadn't checked SONAR and did. I found a lot of MOTU related post; but most were dated.

I appreciate the thought about 3rd party drivers; but don't want to complicate my life any more right now. The WavesRT drivers, minimum latency of 96 samples and maximum of 48k samples/sec are ok for now. However, I need to have the CueMix console working.

Is there anyone out there who is successfully using a previous [before 3.6.8.1400] version of the Vista 64-bit firewire driver? If so, please post it here.

Thanks.

Bill :(

I think I have this same problem as well. Vista 64 bit 424 card 2408 mk iii. Drivers install OK, but can't see an audio interface in Vista.

Quad core Intel board.

Is it still a wait and see situation?
