Using 828 MKII with 1296 & 2408 MKII

Post by brokenarrow »

I have a chance to buy an 828 MKII and I want to add it to my current system which is a 2408 MKII & a 1296, both attached to a 424 PCIe card. Is it possible to use the regular Firewire interface (828MKII) with the two PCIe devices? Will the 828 run off the 424 card or must it be run from a firewire port and is it even possible?

Thanks in advance

IS there anywhere to find out this information? It is not really specific on the MOTU site. Hope someone can help.

Thanks

The 828mkII must be connected to a FireWire port, not the PCI-424 card.

If you're using a DAW program that supports multiple audio interfaces, the 828mkII and the PCI-424 system together quite easily. If the DAW doesn't support multiple interfaces, you could use the 828mkII as an A/D converter expansion unit that would be connected to the the 2408mkII with an ADAT optical cable.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

Thanks for the reply, I am using Cubase5 which I don't think will support multiple interfaces, I need to check that. Actually i wanted to use the 828 to replace the 2408 since my 1296 has 96k capabilities and the 2408 doesn't, I was mainly looking for 96k capabilities with all units...but if i am understanding you correctly, I could use the 828 into the 2408, but I would still be limited to 48k max due to the 2408's limitations. I guess a 2408 MKIII or another 1296 would be the better alternative.
