UAD 5.3 released

Post by daveyboy »

I'm sure everyone (and their tech savy mother) knows this already. I had a weird authorization issue but I ended up sorting it out so I guess it's all good. Enjoy.

I just downloaded it.
What do you think about 4K Channel Strip ? I already have 88 RS.
Has anybody tried Harrison 32C Channel EQ ? I'm about to buy it.

I demoed the Harrison and thought it was really nice. Worth it over the Helios if you ask me.

I perform the update and this message appears, as soon as I finish update the firmware:

UAD-2 firmware update
There was a problem updating your firmware
Error –51 dsp communication error

How i resolve it:

1.- Run install application
2.- Uninstall
3.- take out both UAD PCI (I have UAD 1 and 2)
4.- Run installation
5.- install UAD cards again
6.- download authorizations from UAD site

I have both. I think the Helios has some heft to it. They're both more character eqs for sure. I have so much $%^* that at this point I'm done even though I still have some credit for more plugins. I have to find reasons to use stuff and now that I have a uad-2 quad card I'm barely pushing it. And no I'm not complaining! I think the motu eq gets more use than any eq I have simply because that's my go to eq to cut frequencies. I love being able to see the problem areas. I also use the URS channel strip pro quite a bit. On the UAD end I use the 88rs a lot. I'm sure I'll demo the ssl plug in and will probably like it too. Great stuff.

Uh, UAD's official position is that they do NOT recommend UAD-1 cards on Mac Pro 8 core machines. They are officially not supported. In other words, they probably won't work, and you can get crashes. Look at the UAD faq on their site and they discuss this.

According to your sig you have an 8 core machine. If you have more trouble, this is likely why.

I had the same thing. Cold boot (Shut down for a minute (as opposed to a restart) and restart) fixed it for me.

I bought both SSL plugs with my UAD-2 upgrade voucher and the 20% March discount. I like the 4K bus compressor better than the 33609s for overall leveling, but the Neve does have an aggressiveness that I will continue to apply sometimes. The Neve and SSL eqs do different things for me--hard to compare really. The 4k channel eq is super smooth, while the Neve gives me a (very slight) "edge" or "punch" in the highs and lows which is nice to have but hard to describe.
