Traveler S/PDIF clock source prob

Hi everybody, I'm a newbie here at unicornation as this is my first post.

I connected my guitar fx processor (Digitech RP2000) via S/PDIF to traveler but the sample rate led flashes in the 44 and occasionally jumps to 48 for like a second, but doesn't flash at that time, and I get no sound. I started naturally by setting the clock source to S/PDIF, and then this happened, but I've also tried just about anything to get a sound from the Digitech's S/PDIF to the traveler. The signal comes through nicely if I connect the fx unit via S/PDIF to the S/PDIF input on my pc's audiophile 2496. The fx unit uses 44.1kHz sampling frequency. Any tips?

Hi,

A few of us have been having the same probem trying to connect the Line 6 POD Pro via S/PDIF. I've had the same problems you've been experiencing. I finally gave up and am connecting the POD via AES digital and using the Word Clock connector to sync them up. Is AES available on the Digitech? If so, give that a try.

I have emailed Musictrack - The UK distributer for MOTU stuff. I hope to have some sort of explaination soon.

Ok I got an answer from MOTU tech support The unit has been tested with low voltage S/PDIF signals so it should be able to lock even to a weak signal but if the S/PDIF receiver on the unit isn't properly calibrated it's possible that something like this might occur. I'm sending my unit to the local distributor for calibration, and this might be the solution for other users who are having the same locking prob.

hi matcher, Have you spoken to Musictrack yet.

I'm on my second unit now (as I had the first one exchanged at Musictracks recommendation)
The fact that my second unit does the same indicates that they may not be properly calibrated at the factory.

I had a similar problem once on a Drawmer mastering processor and an engineer explained how to calibrate it with a simple turn of a screwdriver. I might ring Musictrack and ask them if it is something the user can do themselves , save sending it back.

I live in Finland so I've spoken with my local distributor It actually is something you can do yourself, and I too will receive a second unit today but probably I'll have to calibrate it. According to MOTU: "S/PDIF calibration is done with a white trim pot on the circuit board of the Traveler. We generally don't recommend opening up the Traveler, but if you want to check the calibration yourself, you can do so"

I was also told by the distributor that it's possible to have the S/PDIF signal on while adjusting the pot, and you'll be able to see when the sensitivity is matched with the signal as the unit locks.

I had similar problems (using a tc m300 with Traveler) and trimming also worked for me.

However I must say the input seems to be very picky. There are almost no margins at all when trimming. The spdif of Traveler must be a poor construction.
