Is the 828 Mk3 + Windows XP MCE hopeless?
I just spend $750 on an 828 Mk3. From what I have read I am very concerned that it will not work well with my XP Media Center Edition.
Has anyone managed to make this combination work?
Has anyone managed to make the 828 Mk3 work with XP Pro? I have an old copy, I could always reinstall Windows (shudder...)
thanks,
Veech

my 828 MK3 works well with XP Professional 32bit, however stay away from the latest drivers version, use 1394 instead.
still cannot get rid of the squeals and high pitched sounds that occurs in a session, whether i am playing back or recording... my system is based on an ASUS p5Q Premium, Quad core Intel CPU and a TI firewire card.

wow great thread but a ton of info... still, I'll give it a shot. I wonder if it is necessary to install a PCI firewire card? I'm using an nVidia board, 680i. There is a firewire connection directly from the board to the front of the case so I don't think I would need a PCI firewire card.

Using an onboard FW port is "not recommended", but there's a lot of BullSh*t not recommended that works just fine. For example I have had no problems with VIA chipsets ever, or even onboard via chipsets for that matter, even with daisy chain multiple units, and even on a laptop.
