I'm ditching my PreSonus Firepod's and an looking for advice

Post by hawkib33 »

I currently have 2 - Presonsu Firepods that wored great for a while under Windows XP. Then they started locking up, PreSonus help was non-existent, I upgraded to Vista, same problem and still no help from PreSonus. Tried advice from other on PreSonus including new drivers and new firewire cards, still same problem and no help from PreSonus. So I'm done with PreSonus. What I am looking for is 16 analog inputs, A/D conversion selectable between 44.1, 48 and 96kHz. I have firewire cards and USB 2.0 inputs available. I would be using this device as my preamp as well. I'm looking at the MOTU 24I/O Core Computer Recording System, which seems to have what I'm looking for at a reasonable price. I am trying to get some feedback from others who are using the some equipment. I be using this in conjunction with Cubase SL3 (altough I think I'm going to upgrade to Cubase Studio 5). Any feedback is appreciated.

Not intended to be a wise-@ at all. However, I've had an 828 since the original, and OS X, and the MOTU stuff has been rock solid. The only problem I had was that one of the driver revisions [early], did not enable the footswitch.

If you didn't like the support response from Presonus you'll LOVE the lack of response from MOTU. Don't count on them for any help; and less than that. They are petty and condescending to their customers IF you ever DO get through. This, unfortunately, is well known.

As for the hardware you're looking at I cannot say. By themselves my two MOTU units work very nicely but for some reason MOTU won't acknowledge, they will not play nice together. Does me little good.

Same here guys, I was using the firepod fow a while and it always had a cold/not phat sound. I even bought the Firestudio one day and got so many pops at normal latencies. Went back to Sam ash and came home with a 8pre and love it. Motu has a phat warm sound.
In fact, I am running server2008 with all vista drivers and everything works fine. In fact its the fastest set up I've ever had. Sound and latency on the motu is great. Hope that helps.

a word of thanks about the 8pre comments. I'll be trying to get rid of my 896hd, unfortunately, to start to get into an all adat configuration and since the 8pre is newest to me your comments about the sound are welcome. I'm planning on keeping it and getting the equivalent of another maker's.

More than a bit disappointed. That unit really was sweet all by itself,..
