I have an old Alesis adat xt20 type II recorder I am messing with. I was going to use my mixers pres but my friend recommended I borrow his 896hd (which he currently isn't using) because it has adat out. I am hoping this will work as I do not have plan on using a computer and my mixers pres are junk.
I searched the forum archives with no luck because I'm not sure how to phrase my search requests. So here they are:
Can I use the 896HD as an 8 channel preamp without a computer?
Can I monitor thought it while I track without a computer?
Thanks for all of your help.
Vice.

Re: Motu Noob Question
You can use the 896 as an "Analog to ADAT converter" without a problem. Make sure you think about and setup your clock synchronization scheme. It will work in both directions, giving you both inputs and outputs. If it has cuemix capability, you can even set up digital routing within it even when it is not connected to a computer.
