geforce 8800gtx graphics card
I've been troubleshooting and searching all day, but I can't get my 2408 to be recognized by my pc. I installed the PCI-424 drivers before installing the card. Then I installed the card, and it seems to be recognized ok. I'm not entirely sure how to check. In device manager I can see the drivers under sound devices, and it seems that they are working properly. However, the 2408 is not recognized by the computer. I have tried all 4 firewire slots, and 2 firewire cables. I also installed the "Firewire/USB2" drivers from the motu site, assuming they were needed for the 424 to speak to the 2408, but that didn't help either. I do not have the install disk. I'm an FOH engineer, and we have had this unit sitting around at the shop for a long time, and now we are starting to do post mixes, so I want to get it running. But I haven't been able to locate the install disk. I figured the drivers online would be all I needed, but perhaps there are drivers on the disk that are needed as well. On the "Cakewalk and MOTU Audio" article on motu.com, it says, "When you run the MOTU Core installer you will have the option to install the ASIO Driver as well as the Wave Driver. Install the Wave Driver." This step is not an option with the 424 or firewire driver installs. So perhaps the install disk is a must? I do plan on using it with Sonar, but just getting it to pop up as a playback device in vista is my primary concern at the moment.
Any help, or troubleshooting tips would be welcome.

Ok, so I found the disk, and ran the setup. But I'm still having the same problem. When i run the MOTU PCI Setup Wizard it just says "Rats! There does not seem to be an interface plugged in. Check your cables and try again." I'm really stumped. Any advice?

Re: 2408 Mk3 not recognized by my PC.
Thanks for the help. I tried both hotfixes, but still no luck. The 424 PCI card is seen by the PC, but the 2408 just is not talking with the 424. I'm not sure what else to try.
Re: 2408 Mk3 not recognized by my PC.
i posted a similar issue.
the IEEE is recognised and working but the device will not be detected. Almost like the firewire conections are dead. Tried different computers and different cables with same results.

Re: 2408 Mk3 not recognized by my PC.
are you using a 4 or 6 pin (audiowire) cable?
Now, there are 3 types of firewire, 4,6 and 9pin.
I think a 6 pin alpha x2 is required
https://www.motu.com/store/accessories/firewire-cables
I bet your cable is inadequate
I noticed you mentioned that you've addressed cables.
ensure it's 6 pin Firewire/Audiowire
I have inherited the task of reviving one of these systems also
I ordered a PCI-424 on ebay for the 2408mk3. It's a crap shoot as he acquired the 2408mk3
at a pawn shop W/O PCI-424 card.
You probably know MUCH more than I.
