Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out what effect Apple's insane removal of firewire 400 ports from all new macs will have on us. Is it possible to use any MOTU devices using a Firewire 400 - 800 cable?
It really is a shame we won't be able to use new Macbooks for recording properly anymore.
Anyone have any experience of using an audio interface with a FW400less mac?
New Macbook Pro's/Mac Pro's compatibility?

Re: New Macbook Pro's/Mac Pro's compatibility?
David,
i am having a nightmare trying to get DP6.01/2 to run on my new 8 core mac pro- i have been using a FW400-800 cable and have tried directly into the fw800 port but have also tried linking them in series- and the problem i get has been consistent which makes me think its not a hardware issue but rather a DP compatibility issue-
any luck getting your programs to run??

Re: New Mac Pro's compatibility? Resolved
i tried my third FW card the Dynex 800 pcie card which has a single FW400 port and 2 800 ports- rock solid and lighting fast!
i am now running Leopard 10.5.6 with 6.01 and its solid and unbelievably fast-!! this puts my 2xDual Core to shame-
if you have been sitting on the sidelines on this new computer- sit no more

Re: New Macbook Pro's/Mac Pro's compatibility?
I've also been trying to set up my Ultralite on my new imac running Leopard 10.5.6 and there seems to be an audio signal coming thru CueMix FX but no audio seems to be coming thru Audacity and Logic. I'm pretty sure I've set up the Motu correctly but I was wondering if anybody else has had issues on the newer macs with the Ultralite mk3s and firewire 800 to 400 converters?
Re: New Macbook Pro's/Mac Pro's compatibility?
I'm having an issue with the 828mk2 and a new Mac Pro - it's not recognized. I also have an 8pre but that's fine using the same 800-400 cable to the same built-in fw800 port. Waiting for a reply from MOTU support...
