mach5 or sampletank
which is better and why?
are they similar?
for me, ease of use and sound quality are most important.
currently running dp4.6 on dual g4 panther
thanks.

Depends what you want them for.
Sampletank is a sample player and comes with a very broad range of its own sounds. It also has a very straightforward interface and good effects. It cannot import other manufacturer's libraries or your own sounds.
Mach 5 is a sampler, and although it comes with a few sounds, it is capable of importing countless other libraries. The best thing about it is that you can import and tweak your own samples and has very sophisticated tools for doing so.
I love and use both, so you need to decide what your own use will be.

Definately get Sampletank first. I went the other way... I have had Mach 5 since it came out. I imported all my sampleCell and Kurzweil sounds.. And others. But the Sampletanks just seems to work easier for Right now sounds. I have not gotten into programming with ST and making new sounds but use Mach 5 for that. It is pretty powerful for that. I wish sample companies would make more for mach5, but thats a developer issue with MOTU.

Can you make your own sounds in SampleTank at all, or do they have to be part of an existing library?Jeff E wrote:Definately get Sampletank first. I went the other way... Importing your own samples into sampletank is extremely buggy at best. If you are lucky to get a few imported you will have very little editing capabilities.
