Recording WAVs instead of SDII

Post by mulletsaison »

Hi, folks.

Is there a way to change my preferences to record audio files as WAVs instead of SDII?

Thanks.

No.

It would be nice though.

One would think that .BWF would be in MOTU's plans, seeing as Broadcast Wave is an AES/EBU standard now (and....Pro Tools does it).

It looks kinda funny, MOTU using a file format that their rival Digidesign developed (and has all but abandoned).

Nope... Though you can import about any format into DP, recording is SDII only. If you want WAVs you have to go to your soundbite window, select the soundbites you want, and from the mini menu choose "export selected bites..." ; you'll be able to export them as WAVs. Or you can also bounce to disk and in the 'format' menu, select WAVE (IIRC this is only available in DP 4.5x, if you use a prior version, your only option is to export from the soundbite window)

The wav export in 4.5x did not on a PC until now with the Quicktime 7 upgrade.

Thanks for confirming bad news... Yeah, I've been doing the export thing but what a pain in the butt.

Oh, well, thanks again!!!

I just finished converting 180Gb of live recorded tracks from Radars (BWAV) to DP. Wow! Took forever. DP is actually very slow at this so I downloaded a demo of SoundGrinder which seemed to be considerably faster, but crashed (froze) my entire system a couple times on me, so I wouldn't recommend it. MOTU needs to get on the ball to natively work with WAV files. SDII is dying fairly quickly since Digi, the developer, deserted it.
