2408MK4 + New PCI with Cuemix FX is coming soon?

Post by analog1 »

Hi all
I'm wondering when Motu will annonce the new line of PCI products something like Apogge Symphony ?
I'm just imagine that is the logical step for Motu.
New PCi e card with integrated DSP like cuemix FX and new interfaces 2408mk4, etc...
Lets see, they coming soon?
regards

It's been difficult to keep up with the release of new MOTU PCI cards due to the Mac's changing standards, at least on my pathetic budget, so what I'd love to see is some sort of chip upgrade, or better still, the ability to blow an EEPROM with whatever new data is necessary (in this case, the DSP algorithms).

MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O
Novation, Yamaha & Roland Synths, Guitar & Bass, Kemper Rack

This is a good question. I've got a 2408Mk3 and am considering moving from my dual G5 to a current MacPro. If I do this not only would I have to pay for 6.02, which I was going to do anyway, I have to buy a replacement PCIe card for my current 2408 system ($300). I'm just curious what the outlook is. Seems like they are moving away from PCIe based systems and going more firewire. Personally I don't trust using firewire for anything other than backup drives. That's just my opinion. I much prefer a fully integrated buss solution.

I too, Ken.

I'm counting on MOTU's continued support of its PCI system; I've been saving for a long time for one more 24I/O as I've run out of inputs due to the decision to expand my OB MIDI rig in preference to VI use.

Hi all
From my personal experience all those years. PCI +PCI e is the most reliable solution.
WORKS WORKS WORKS and of course a modular system with 2. 3 or 4 24 i/o, its best value for money with great sound.
I smell something new is coming, all those interfaces needs a lifting right now, they getting old.
Due to the strong competition (Apogee, RME, Lynx) and the recession in the world i dont know if is the right timing or moment for new products
that is not really for everybody (see why the advertise only Ultralite).

Anyway i like this brand and i believe they are in the right way if they could combine something like the Vbus from Apogee, CuemiX FX , and high end converters with modular card for PT connectivity like Lynx LT-HD. Dont forget the firmware chip upgrade like the wise monkey man said before.
They know all that stuff in Boston , we don't say something new here.
I just remember know that Apple also should have new MAC PROS in the next two three months , logic 8.5 or 9 is coming to.
From April until July we will be completely shocked by all the new stuff ! From all of them of course.
All that stuff together with the SNOW from Apple alleluia, good bye G5.

Kind regards

I hope MOTU comes out with a 2408mk4 or the similar in 424e compatible cards. I'm still holdiing onto a 1224 !! If not soon, I may have to look otherwise.
Which I have, but most interfaces are firewire or old interfaces w/ updated PCIe cards (RME).
Getting so antsy, I may forego waiing and look to add ons via AES/EBU or aggregate the ol 2408mkii for lite pipe integration.

EDIT;; I meant hope they make a mk4 to be compatible w/ 424e cards.

Understood. For me personally, my 2408mk3 has been flawless, sounds good and is rock solid. I don't mind upgrading the card but it would be very nice to have some of the newer features of CuemixFx (828mk3) available. That's probably the only thing I'd be interested in having.

Some sort of reassurance that the PCI system has a future would be timely around about now, IMHO, given the glut of new FW and USB offerings on the market as well as MOTU's recent hardware-product-release history.

As I've said, I'm still aiming to add another 24I/O to accommodate MIDI hardware. I too have found the system to be rock-solid, right through my 2408 MkI, then MkII and now 24I/O history.

May this system never die. A few words from MagicD on this could really make my year as I've planned to stick with this approach for the next 5 years at least. Card upgrades seem inevitable, but they're essentially small prices to pay for the stability we enjoy, IMHO.
