Mac OS 9.2.2 Quicktime Question

Hi - I've purchased a used G4 tower with 1.5 Gig of ram, 867 Mhz, running 9.2.2. Got it from a great store here in the Northwest, Powermax, Portland, OR.
I'm only using the OS 9.2.2 side for music programs, but I can't access the Quicktime music instruments. I'm using "FreeMidi," a program used by my two main programs, Performer and Composer Mosaic. I can create MIDI devices in "FreeMidi" but can't seem to get the sounds to play. I'm switching from an older G3 iBook laptop because death, taxes and crashing computers are sure things. Also, being a musician means it's probably something like plugging in a cord. Help, and thanks...
