FYI....how to get sound out of your MK3

Post by ringemaster »

A lot of folks seem to be having trouble getting sound out of their MK3. What I learned is that the Main Outs and Phones Outs don't default to Analog 1-2 in your DAW. They're actually set to Analog 9-10 and 11-12 respectively. You either:

a) go into the Audio setup of the mk3 and set the Main Outs/Phone Outs to mirror Analog 1-2

OR

b) go into your DAW and choose Analog 9-10 or 11-12. In Logic, you can go into Audio->I/O Options and choose the names setup in Logic instead of the basic names in the Input drop down menus.

Another note....CueMix Console does not equal the software you're probably looking for. It's actually called 'Cue Mix FX'. That's the mixer you want for no-latency monitoring.

Hope this helps a few people.

My main out is always analog 1-2 since the day I bought it.

Interesting. On the mk3, the Main Outs and Phone Outs have their own discrete outputs. Within the audio setup you can choose to have them mirror Analog 1-2, but by default mine came with them setup on their discrete outputs.

When I first went into Logic and tried to choose the output of a track to Analog 1-2, I thought this meant it would go to the 'main outs'. It wasn't until I tried all of the outputs and came across 9-10 that I realized the mains are 'Analog 9-10', at least in Logic they were.

So, I found that I could either choose 'Analog 9-10' in Logic and have them output on the main outputs of the mk3 or go into the Audio Setup of the mk3 and have the Main Outs mirror Analog 1-2 (assuming that the output of the track in Logic was set to Analog 1-2) before I heard anything.

I was just trying to share my experience in case it helped others.

Mine came with outputs 9-10 for the main outs. I had to tell the MK3 to mirror outs 1&2. That is the DEFAULT configuration out of the box.

Please, tell me somebody exactly how to mirror Analog 1-2 (or any other output pair) to Main outs 1-2... One of my customers just bought MK3 and everything went well in the first place - she manually changed Logic outputs to 9-10 and it was ok. Today she called me and told, that she can't listen iTunes anywhere else but outs 3-4 and had to change Logic also that way... Weirdest thing I've heard. Should she use Cuemix FX or MOTU Audio setup for managing ins and outs? I have to explain everything on phone so please be simple! And accurate! THX in advance! -S

Here is how I set up The 828 in the MOTU Audio Control Panel.
The key is to use Analog 1 & 2.

Check out this thread. You will see a screen shot of the Audio/MIDI Setup.
Now, In Logic ... Keep the Outputs as 1 & 2 and your good to go.
