Re: MOTU FW devices in VISTA
I contacted MOTU and they told me to reinstall the drivers, with my anti-virus turned off. Then i downloaded a hotfix for my firewire ports to work better and it didn't work at all. What else can I do?
Re: MOTU FW devices in VISTA
Hi,
I got the same problems too.
If anything that can cause Vista to crash to a blue screen, its a poorly written piece of code. It will be the MOTU drivers.
Don't blame windows. I have used other audio interfaces from well known German brands under vista example, Steinberg, RME, Native Instruments, just to name a few. No bluescreen dumps from XP and VISTA (32/64bit). Those guys know how to write rock-solid drivers to support their hardware.
I have recently gotten a Traveler Mk3 - crap drivers they have and returned it for a full refund - THAT'S the SOLUTION!
Cheers,
M

Re: MOTU FW devices in VISTA
Same thing. The reason I bought MOTU is an excellent driver support. I guess not anymore. Well, my Traveler goes on eBay. I'm sick of it. (One thing though - under Mac it's simply GREAT ...)

Well I was on the fence about selling my 896HD but, now I'm convinced. If Motu and Vista x64 won't play nice, I'll ebay or craiglist it and buy a Steinberg MR816 X since I'm running Cubase Studio 4/5 anyway. I loved my converters in the 896HD, I hope the new steiny will be as clean minus the 192k option.

Re: MOTU FW devices in VISTA
Check out all this im having to deal with....
I first purchased a MOTU 896HD awhile back, and like stated above, I have loved the clean converters on the 896, BUT............
I was using with XP and was OCCASIONALLY getting the digital clicks and pops everyone above is bitching about. But it was rare. I recently started mixing a project where I needed aprox 24 tracks out to mix on my Yamaha DM1000, So I purchased an additional 896 on eBay for dirt cheap. Got it in the studio, Daisy chained them, installed drivers, etc....Worked GREAT! for about 10 min's. I was mixing away and didn't touch anything, saved my project, left it up and running and left the studio to get a bite to eat and returned 20 mins later. All the sudden it was not recognizing my new 896 at all, lost all my inputs/outputs. TRIED EVERYTHING, tech support, by the time all this is over with, My computer and my first 896 are not recognizing the new 896 AT ALL, period! ..........
Well, I was not sure where the prob was coming from....and neither was MOTU.
I did know that my old machine was having trouble dealing with all those tracks and plugins, I had been needing to upgrade for awhile. So, I got a custom built PC, Vista (Gulp) Quad core 2.6gig Process, 4G ram, etc....a Powerhouse. Got everything installed (even though my new 896 is still not working) i was testing my old trusty one, Worked fine, BUT>>>>>>>> The pops and clicks were more often and WORSE. I had to borrow a friends M-Audio FW interface to finish mixing my project. I FINALLY Got um working together after 8 hours of working on driver setup and getting lucky. After they were both working together I did not leave the studio desk until the project (Which was on a time table) was fully mixed and mastered out of fear that I would breathe wrong and they would quit working.
NOW......Weeks later I have my first recording session since that project was mixed.
A simple Vox session with tracks, well suppose to be simple. WHAT THE HELL!!!!! LATENCY Issues! Everything recorded was aprox. 100ms behind. Trust me, I went through ALL the settings and fixes I could. Nothing helped. I eventually set a quick fix to get through my sessions, this is so ghetto, I set my nudge hotkey to 100ms and every time I punched or recorded anything I would have to select the recorded section and nudge it. It's almost second nature by now, lol. Oh, BTW, The pops and clicks + High pitch noise is still showing up, especially in the middle of good takes.
Oh, The click/pop/noise issue is there on games as well, I installed World of Warcraft just to see if the sound issues were there as well, and YES, it will lose sync even more often and for longer duration in the game.
I am currently trying to get a hold of MOTU tech support, busy busy busy busy busy, haven't been able to get through.
I"m about ready to sac up all my MOTU gear and sale it for scrap metal. If anyone has any useful info for any of my many probs, plz share! Thanks!
