MIDI Sustain Pedal Data not working with EWQL PLAY

Post by ssummerford »

Has anyone had any problems getting sustain pedal data out of DP and into EWQL PLAY? I can record the MIDI data into a DP MIDI track, but it doesn't seem to make it to the PLAY plugin. Mod data makes it through though. Is there some DP filter tweak that I'm not aware of? EWQL assured me that the sustain data would function in PLAY.

Thanks,

Steve

A couple of questions: 1) are you saying that you can record and hear your PLAY instrument sustaining, but it's not making it to the actual MIDI track, or that the sustain CCs are present on the track, but it's not triggering sustain inside PLAY (an obvious way to test this is to just route your MIDI track to another VI with, let's say, a piano on it and see if the sustain is working)? 2) sustain does work with PLAY, as does every other CC# (I have MOR) ... but not on every instrument. A lot of guitar patches in MOR don't utilize sustain, like a distorted lead, for example, and no amount of tapping the sustain pedal will make it so. Are you sure that the instrument you're using inside PLAY is even capable of using sustain? If not, try switching the instrument to one that would indeed use sustain (a piano, a harp, an electric but not distorted guitar) and see if that works.

Yes to your second take on my situation...I can record and see CC data in my DP MIDI track, but it will not trigger any sustain action in PLAY. I've checked with the piano patches. It's weird...maybe it some weird thing with my set up? Maybe I have to reinstall PLAY? I was just checking to see if anyone else had run up against this.

Ok I've figured out a little more, while I can see that DP is recording sustain data, it seems to cap it somewhere in the middle, so instead of being either 0 or 127, it's like 60. So that registers as an off pedal as far as plugins are concerned. Where can I fix that?

Thanks!

Look through your preferences for the tab on continuous data under Editing. See if the "Switches are Continous Data" box is checked. If so, you might try unchecking it, or vice versa. But it sounds to me like the problem is actually in your pedal itself. DP only records the data sent. If the pedal is sending a "pedal On" command, it may be in the form of a 60. Usually that number should be at least 64.
