Post by genamusic »

Hello! DP doesn't open a file and i got the message: "An error occured while reading from the disk. The file was not loaded. MacOS error: Unexpected error (103)". With the Time Machine backups i have the same problem, only a very old is opened but there are 30 hours of work missing!!! What can i do? i have tried opening on a another computer but same problem... repair permission was no help, too. Does anybody know something about this error?
Thank you very much for your help

First think I would try is to disable all of your plug-ins [for example temporarily remove them from your components folder].

This will tell you if it is a plug-in problem.

Next, copy the project file to an empty folder and try to open it from there. In other words, try to get it to open without finding any audio [it may be a bad audio file].

Also, try temporarily deleting the analysis folder and the undo folder.

You can also try opening up a new project, and then [using import chuncks, I *think*] try to import the project file into a new clean project. You may have to fix a few things up, but this has saved me from this problem once.

Did you check the specific permissions of the files in the project? [probably the easiest is to look at them with the terminal with ls -al command.

Can you tell me what kind of drive this is on? The brand? Is it External or Internal? Firewire, SATA, eSATA or USB? Size?

There are several potentially failing drives being reported now.

I recently returned a seagate baraccuda drive. While it worked, it was flakey, and when I benchmarked it, it was sometimes 5X slow compared to an average disk drive. if I remember correctly. I returned it. Not that this is it, but if you try benchmarking it compared to your other disks.

Just check its serial # against the ones on the list linked in this thread:

Forum Thread About Seagate's List of Suspicious Drives

Honestly, the problem sounds like the one that XYZ was alluding to in post #2, above. When I had such errors, I sent the drive to Magic Dave at MOTU, and he was able to open it without any trouble. He saved it and sent it back to me, and it has worked ever since. It can be a combination of problems and can get complicated, depending on your VIs and Bundle setup, but sometimes all it takes is someone else opening it without the VI's involved.

But if it's not this problem, then it's starting to sound more like drive failure, in which case the file's directory on the disk may be corrupted. If so, there may be hope that someone with experience at data recovery might bring it back from the dead. If that's the case, don't do any more writing to that hard drive, as you may over-write parts of that file. If you check Google for "data recovery, [your town]," you may find someone nearby who can do it inexpensively. Many have a flat rate now, for as little as $150 to $250.
