Powercore Virus
Hi Guys
Anybody using TC Powercore Virus? I need some help with setting it up in DP. I have installed and can add an instrument track pointing to Virus, but can not figure out what my interface is. In my head, I should be able to use my Yamaha keyboard as a controller??? Sorry for the extra dumb question, but I do mostly acoustic recording.
Thanks
Roy

Re: Powercore Virus
Your Yamaha controller should be set up in your AudioMIDI setup, not in DP. Open the AudioMIDI Setup in your Utilities. Your MIDI interface should show up there, along with your Network and IAC. If it doesn't, select "Rescan MIDI Setup" from the MIDI menu to find it. Once your MIDI interface appears, select "Add New Device" from the top of the MIDI window. A new unnamed device will appear. You can call it "Yamaha keyboard", if you want to. Draw a connection from the Yamaha's MIDI out to the MIDI interface's input, and vice-versa. If you double-click on the "Yamaha" device, you can select the basics, like how many channels the device will have, if it receives beat clocks, etc. Now select "Test MIDI Setup" from your MIDI menu. Press a couple of keys on your Yamaha keyboard. You should hear "MIDI received!" over your computer's sound out every time you press a key. You're now hooked up via MIDI.
In DP, just add your Virus as an instrument track. Now add a MIDI track, if you haven't already done so. Now record-enable that MIDI track. After that, in your instrument selector for that MIDI track, select what should probably say "Virus 1-1" from the list of available instruments. Now, you should be able to play the Virus from your Yamaha controller.

Re: Powercore Virus
Hey Armageddon
Many thanks for your response. I am off to the studio to give that a try. My setup in audio/MIDI was already done correctly, I think I may even have tried what you have recommended but am not sure I could see the virus outputs. Studio is a 20 minute drive from where I am. I will let you know how it goes. Many thanks.

Re: Powercore Virus
Hey Armageddon
Thanks a lot, that worked. I had tried it and it just hadn't worked and it turned out that it's something related to the profiles. The administrator profile works perfectly now, while the second profile simply refuses to accept the Yamaha controller. I can not figure out why, as the setup is exactly the same. In this case, the little keyboard in the sequence window does generate sound, however I can not change patches from the Virus window, I can only change them from the patch assign in the tracks window, however, the patches are numbered, not named, so it is guess work.
In essence the problem is resolved as the administrator profile is working like it should. I did notice with certain bass patches that my CPU spiked into the red. I am running a G5 Dual 2GHz with 5GB or RAM. It's the first time I've ever seen that. I am still to figure out how many patches do that. That said, I must say Virus has some amazing patches and I can imagine what one can do with some tweaking.
Many thanks for your help, let me get stuck in it.

Re: Powercore Virus
Glad I could help! Is it possible you might need to update the Powercore software, too? It just seems weird that you can't access your sounds via the Virus' GUI ... unless it's a bug in DP 6.02 that's not letting you manipulate the GUI. My experience with TC's product is limited to the Konnekt 24D interface, but I know they have regular firmware/software updates (you may possibly even be able to open up a window with Powercore's driver and, so long as you're connected to the Internet, go directly to the Updates page that way).

Re: Powercore Virus
Actually TC has just released an update for their powercore platform recently and it's actually one of the more stable updates. Their product works on and off. Sometimes very dangerous to update. When you come across an update that works, you basically stay there. Right now I am very happy that I have a profile that works. If I can get the second one working, then it's a bonus. I can't thank you enough.
All the success to you.

Re: Powercore Virus
TC Electronic has announced the availability of version 2.0.4 of the Access Virus synth for PowerCore.
Access Virus version 2 introduces new features as well as a large number of improvements in regards to performance and stability. In order to meet users demands of a more bandwidth efficient version, TC Electronic is now including a new stereo version of the Virus. It requires significantly less bandwidth and proves especially useful for PowerCore users working with multiple instances of the plug-in. Program change is now fully supported, and improves the workflow for all users.
Version 2.0 addresses a number of instabilities in regards to timing, especially in regards to the arpeggiator, the LFO and any other component synced to clock. It also addresses issues found with certain host applications, such as rare cases of crackling, hanging notes and minor graphical issues.
The 2.0 upgrade is free for all Virus PowerCore users.
I no longer have a Powercore, but thought this information would be useful to people here. The download link did not copy in the above text, so you'll need to revisit the KVR news front page from whence this announcement was snipped.
