MOTU 828MK2 USB. Please help anyone. Losing lots of work.
Ok first post hey guys any help here much appreciated haven't heard back from tech support yet.
I bought an 828 mkii usb recently for use in my studio in Ireland while im here as i thought it would be an upgrade from my ST audio pci audio card. I have had nothing but problems ever since. I have formatted my PC twice and still no luck Im using nuendo 3 i thought it was software related but i have nailed it down to the motu. It happens inside and outside of the host, heres a brekdown of the problems that occur.
After a while of audio playing it will just drop out and take some time to come back if at all.
- Other times it will click or go zizzzz then drop out.
- also sometimes the lights on 4 and 5 light up when this happens and 4 5 are not used at all.
Buffering down within nuendo it gets an error and freezes. Buffer up is fine.
Any ideas here would be great its really driving me crazy and a client walked out of a session the other day because it happened 3 times whilst recording vocals. Thank you.

Hi,
I have 828 Mk II USB also. I had a problems with dropouts first, but everything works well after:
- I disabled WLAN card on computer
- I checked in windows XP device manager that there are no other devices on same USB root hub, it didn't
like having other devices like printer there
- Updated to latest drivers
The latest drivers work very well for me, buffers in motu audio console are set to 256 (at 44.1 Khz).
No dropouts or anything. Only problem is that buffers reset back to 512 when I reboot the
computer so I must remember to set it back to 256.
I even played a live gig with this setup !

hi thanks for your reply, does this mean i have to take everything else out of all th usb connections? because my sessions are on an external drive or is there a way to set it in device manager that its on its own?

I would try to plug out all other USB devices and try if motu works then.realizment wrote:hi thanks for your reply, does this mean i have to take everything else out of all th usb connections? because my sessions are on an external drive or is there a way to set it in device manager that its on its own?
If it works, then plug one by one back.
If you open windows device manager and select view->view devices by connection,
you'll find "USB Controller" devices when you expand the device tree. Under each
"USB Controller" there is "USB Root Hub". I have my motu connected so that
there are no other devices under same "USB Root Hub" as the motu. My motherboard
has intel chipset, I don't know if this is similar for other motherboards.
However, most important changes for me were disabling the WLAN (took care most
of dropouts) and newest drivers (which you can download from motu.com).

Oh, one more thing: I think that there are some Windows USB fixes in XP Service Pack 3.
If possible, you might consider installing it.

okso this seems to have fixed the dropped audio but it still does not like being buffered up or down, it completely crashes my host, this only happens within the host.

Wow, I still have one of those I use for backup work. Funny, I've had all kinds of configuration problems with my MOTU units but the most maligned card to ever exist, the STAudio c-port, has better drivers and operated for me more reliably, realizment wrote: I bought an 828 mkii usb recently for use in my studio in Ireland while im here as i thought it would be an upgrade from my ST audio pci audio card. ..
Forget tech support, your best move is to come here.

What do you mean by "being buffered up or down" ? Using ASIO control panel from host software to adjust buffer settings ?realizment wrote:okso this seems to have fixed the dropped audio but it still does not like being buffered up or down, it completely crashes my host, this only happens within the host.
I think that that has caused some problems for me also, now I usually just use "Motu Audio console" to adjust buffer settings and
sample rate before starting up vst host (which is Tracktion / Reason combo in my case).
Older drivers also had issues if one changed sample rate in host, it caused host program to hang totally. This has
obviously been fixed in newest drivers.
