I posted a work around for the EZ Player earlier in this thread which should also work for EZ Drummer. It's interesting that Stylus RMX works as it uses the same general technique. I'm going to check this out since I have this app as well.

I just emailed both Toon Tracks and MOTU with the problem.
Dan that is the same problem I am getting and also the drum track sounds like it is being pulled in to hell.

Have you tried to drag the MIDI file to the desktop, and then from the desktop into DP?

Twisted Tom---Yeah, I also noticed that in once instance of a drag and drop that the velocities were alot heavier. Just for the one pattern. The rest were fine. I didn't do anything different in my method. This is bizzarrrrrrreeeee.. :|

dbender--I tried your workaround with TT Solo and you're right it does work fine. A bit of a pain though. Thanx for this.

Let's hope this gets resolved. I don't wanna stay on 6.01 although I'm not havin' any real probs with it. I do want access to that shortcut bar though... :D

I'm gonna give that run now.....Although it occurs to me that it would be no different from dbenders workaround and would likely work. I'm gonna see If I can drag onto the desktop from within DP 6.02.....

Upon investigation, I can indeed drag the file to the desktop and then darg it into 6.02 with no probs. Wierd. It's still easier to do it from TT Solo though. less moves and no desktop clutter....

The reason the pattern sounds heavier is because the same groove is being stacked one on top of the other (as I said in a previous post). If you grab a single note in the MIDI window and move it up or down, you will notice that another note is underneath. I've had as many as 8 notes piled on top of each other, that's what those ghost boxes are doing.

I noticed that as I started diggin deeper into this. At 1st I thought it was a velocity thing but you're totally right and that's what's happenein' here also. I've gone back and read all you're posts now. There was so much goin' on in this thread that I missed the EZ Drummer stuff 'til this morning. Thanx again for that TT Solo work around. I would never have thought of that....

BFD 2 with DP 6.02?

I too can confirm the problem with EZ Drummer and dragging in MIDI files. My next step, I want to test with BFD 2, since it also lets you drag in MIDI files. If the MIDI problem also occurs w/ BFD 2, that would imply it is something in DP causing it. Unfortunately, I'm not having good luck w/ BFD 2 yet. I'm still running an older version of BFD 2 (v. 2.0.5, build 10). So far I couldn't get it to see my samples, and then when I tried to close the window, DP "unexpectedly quit."

When I get some time, I'll try downloading the latest update of BFD 2 and testing some more, but for now I thought I would ask:

Has anyone tested BFD2 w/ DP 6.02 yet? What version are you using? What are your results?

Thanks,
Babz

Not BFD, Babz, but I use Model 12 frequently in place of a click track. I find that many players perform better to a drum figure than just a straight click.

I've been having problems with Model 12 randomly not responding to MIDI input. Once it stops the only way to get it to respond is to open it's window and close it again. In 6.01 this would happen regardless of whether I was "running in real time" or not. Well, it's not completely fixed in 6.02, but if I now "run in real time" the problem is gone. So at least now there's a work-around. :)

dbender wrote:Can anyone who has Addictive Drums, EZPlayer Pro or UVI WorkStation and has successfully (or not) done MIDI file drag and drop in DP 6.02 please report their experiences here?

It's especially important for me with respect to Addictive Drums and EZPlayer Pro that MIDI file drag and drop work properly.

(James, you have Addictive Drums -- how is MIDI file dragging working in DP 6.02 w/ AD?)
Short answer: Addictive Drums also has this problem.

Here's what I know about the problem so far:

Affected: Addictive Drums, EZ Drummer and variants, UVI Workstation (when dragging loops)
Un-Affected: EZPlayer Pro, Stylus RMX

Workaround for MIDI drag: You can minimize the creation of duplicate MIDI by getting a good fix on where you intend to drag the MIDI before you start the drag. Try to drag it in one pretty confident motion. You can experiment with this to see what's going on, but basically if you start the drag, if you take a long time to complete the drag (for example move the cursor back and forth on the timeline before releasing the mouse button and dropping MIDI) you will create more duplicate MIDI notes. For now, best way to deal with this is drag quickly as described, then select the MIDI data you just dropped and use "Remove Duplicates" in the MIDI Plug-Ins. If you drag a partial measure fill, into a measure that already has existing MIDI data in it, you'll need to switch to the Event List view on the track after the drag where it will be easy to see the duplicates and delete them manually.

A bigger problem is the drag with audio loops in UVI Workstation. I guess here the solution is to use the event list to remove duplicate audio. I also have some (preliminary) suspicions that the loop tempo isn't right on some loops when dragging from UVI Workstation, whereas I can drag from Plugsound Pro and it seems okay.

So far, other than Stillwell and EZPP, everything is working well. The crash problem I had with Kontakt 2 seems to be rectified. Actually 6.02 "feels" quite stable. I'm doing some mixing today and we'll see how that goes, straight up Rock & Roll, @30 tracks per.

BFD 2 with DP 6.02 -- Test Results

OK, I got BFD2 working (had to trash and rebuild database; don't think it had anything to do w/ DP; haven't used BFD for a while; not sure what was making it not see my samples).

Re: the dragging MIDI issue.... Dragging in MIDI files DOES work w/ BFD2. It's not the total train wreck like I get with EZDrummer. However, it's not exactly normal, either. After you drag in the MIDI file, the wiper flashes for a few seconds. There is also sometimes a flashing yellow outline that flashes around the track, or the MIDI block you just dragged in that flashes along with the flashing wiper. But both quickly go away. It is definitely useable, and I didn't get any crashes. But sometimes the MIDI loop would not successfully drop and I would have to try again. Other times it would not work and then I'd try again and I'd end up with the loop dragged in twice on top of one another. This was rare. Most of the times it worked OK. I only tested for about an hour. I hesitate to do any more tests since my version of BFD2 (2.0.5.10) is way behind the current update. I probably won't have time to download and install the latest versions of BFD2 or EZDrummer until next week.

In the meantime, it would be very helpful if someone else could test and report results with the current versions of BFD2 or EZD.

For now, I can report that dragging in MIDI w/ EZD is a total mess and unusable. BFD2 seems to be working pretty well, but not perfectly, based on my early tests w/ my older BFD2 version. All I can conclude at this point is that it is very bad w/ Toontrack (and that may imply that it is something Toontrack can fix) and that it works reasonably well w/ BFD2. But then others are reporting problems w/ Addictive Drums too, so maybe MOTU also needs to tweak something on their end too. When things like this show up the first day of a new release, it makes you wonder how many third party VIs MOTU has to test with.

Best,
Babz

Dan Walsh wrote: but when I do, it goes kinda slow and all these little ghost like boxes also appear and seem to be doin' something in the background. It takes about 30 seconds for all this to happen and then the MIDI groove pattern shows up in the MIDI track and plays properly.

So, something is definately wrong, but the grooves do play back once settled. In 6.01 I have absolutley no probs draggin' the grooves in.

I'll go search the thread on the Toontrack forum and see whats happenin'. The ToonTrack guys have excellent support so let's hope they can figure somethin' out. I don't know whay in the hell this would change with DP 6.02 but, I totally rely on EZ Drummer. I am a computer illiterate, but I suspect this is a DP prob as oppsoed to Toon Track as I have not had any probs prior to this. :x
I have the same problem with UVI and the ghost boxes, on DP5.13, and I' m thinking it's not a DP problem.
