Ain't free, but fairly reasonable... this is one of my favorites right here: Dubstation:

Also... very promising is the plug in... I can't wait to buy it, but there are some issues with it emptying out it's buffer on subsequent re-start of playback. It's based on the Roland Space Echo and going to be a killer when that little inconvenience is fixed. GS-201 Tape Echo:

Another good one is Expert Sleeper's Augustus Loop http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/augustusloop.html

Do love Dubstation, use it more often than any other delay out there (though like King Dubby it's strictly speaking not a tape delay model, but an analog delay model)

If you downloaded it before mid-December, or from anywhere other than the Lowcoders website, it could be that it's expired. The developers apparently forgot to remove the beta versions' expiry script when they compiled the release version. You can download the recompiled version here:

http://www.lowcoders.fr/

mdsp@smarteletronix also had an excellent donationware one called simply Analog Delay. Unfortunately, he hasn't ported it to AU or to UB (yet). But if you're using a PPC Mac, it should work if you can find a VST wrapper. It's here:

http://mdsp.smartelectronix.com/classic/

PSP Audioware offer the Lexicon PSP42, the PSP84, and the PSP608 MultiDelay, all of which are excellent. Besides DubStation, Audio Damage also make a very nice multitap called Ricochet. Their stuff is all high quality at a very affordable price.

Kind regards.

I like (and use) Dubstation and Analog Delay,

this is pretty awesome too;
http://kunz.corrupt.ch/?Products:VST_TAL-Dub
All the TAL stuff is really good, and free. Which reminds me that I need to donate something to them/him.

And this just kicks all kinds of ass;
http://www.fabfilter.com/products/timeless.php
All the FabFilter stuff is great. I own almost everything they make.

I love delays.

$349 seems a bit high for a tape echo emulation, doesn't it?

Perhaps, but you can get their entire Native bundle (6 plug-ins) for $495. The bundle
is the way to go.

it's free, its fun, and you can even break it if you touch the capstan too much.

Check out the U-he UHBIK plugins pack.. There's a really good "tape-style" delay in it along with a great reverb and much more.. I find myself using these effects more and more..

I'll second, third, fourth, and fifth the UA tape echo. I'm a huge fan of the echoplex and the RE space echo is the only thing that got me out of unreliable hardware. UA has figured out how to digitize magic and they injected it into it.
