DP 5.13 & Automap Problems

Post by yavn »

Sorry if this has already been addressed but here goes...

I just got a Novation ReMote SL Zero and have been trying to get it working with DP for days. I've been trying to use the DP template (34) but can't get the SL to controll DP. None of the buttons on the SL have any effect on DP. Going the other way, moving mixing faders in DP does change the numbers on the SL. None of the SLs transport buttons have any effect on DP.

When the SL is connected and any virtual insturment is open, the SL is sending out a contatnt stream of c2 notes. The is happening with automapped wraped and unwraped plugins. It happens even when a track is not recored enabled.

I spent 30 min on the phone with DP support, but they were unable to find the problem / soloution.

I'm using a 2.1Ghz Mac Book with 2GB ram, OSX 10.5.6, DP 5.13, Automap 2.1.1234.6 and the latest OS for the SL. The SL is the only thing plugged into the Mac, there is no MIDI or anyhting external.

Thanks for any help!

I've been having the same problems trying to set up my Keystation Pro-88 with DP 5.1.3 and 6 (one would assume that, if your controller was set up to transmit MIDI commands like "Stop", "Record", etc., that DP would just recognize those commands arbitrarily, like it does MIDI note information and pitch bend), but once I'm done futzing around with a project I'm mixing in OS 9 (it's as horrific as it sounds!), I planned on perusing Shooshie's and James' tutorial on setting up M-Audio controllers to use with DP to see if that shed some light on it ...

I am currently running a Remote SL 37 & 25 and a nocturn, the 37 runs DP, the 25 runs reason under rewire and the nocturn controls my plugins, to need to see this page as a start.

http://www.novationmusic.com/answerbase ... php?id=365

this is about the c-2 message system that the remote sl uses.

http://www.novationmusic.com/global/sup ... remote_sl/

check pages # 50-55, I've had it set up and running smoothly for over a year, if you have any trouble let me know, and give me some info on what you've tried. It's not as much an issue in DP as it is one of the Remote SL options, as I remember I had to do something in the template options on the hardware unit.

the first novation link talks about using the multi-record mode to eliminate this issue, but I have it worked around with the option to use single or multi record and not experience this issue.

I will have to look at my hardware in the morning to remember what it was.

Thanks - that stopped the c2 pinging.

I also found the work around for controlling the transport & tempo using the universal template (#38).

I still need help when the SL is in the DP template (#34) getting the SL to have any effect on DP.

Thanks,

here is everything I have arraigned for use with DP,

Studio>Bundles.

under Template 34 DP HUI, press the template button and look at your settings, mine are as follows.

1.Vel Curve/Soft 1
2.Aftertouch/On
3.Keyboard Channel/1
4.Keyboard Port/U1 M1 (usb 1 and Midi1) you should select this regardless of whether or not you use standard MIDI or usb, just so that both are default active if you ever need to switch in a hurry. it's happened 8)
5.Common Channel/1
6.Common Port/U2 M1
7.Host Program/DP
8.Pot Mode/Pick up.

Now press the Global button, use the left hand up and down scroll buttons at the edge of the LCD screen.
Press up once, you should see this.

1.memptotect/off
2.usb 1 to/M1 M2
3.usb 2 to/off
4.MIDI to/u1 m1 m2
5.Pot mode/jump
6.disptime/1250ms
7.Keepvals/on
8.MidiClk/MIDI in

press the row up buttom one more time.

1.Template/channel 1
2.change off
3.Sustain pedal/Auto
4.mclk to/off
5.BPM port/on
6.ID ports/2
7.HUI/ON - it is most likely this setting here that will be the issue.

let me know if this helps or not. you obviously need to save any changes you make to your settings, but be careful as it will lose your changes if you change templates without saving. and some templates require you to press save twice, and some you have to hit save 3 times, don't remember which for DP, just double read the LCD screen before you finish.

also, did you create three "virtual" instruments in your audio MIDI setup and connect them to the remote sl usb instrument?

Than you so much for the settings. I had the same for all of them.

I did not understand creating 3 virtual insturments and connecting them to the SL.

I did end up speaking to the Novation support person at American Music and Sound and he was zero help. His soloution was installing the drivers again and rebooting my machine....

Mike,
Yea, it's runnning with DP like a charm. I was getting worried that the unit was busted, or just not great for DP. Are there any custom DP templates to use with the universal template (#38)?

I know this is a MOTU board, but any suggestions on where I should look to get the SL working with Live?

Thanks,

I've got the SL controlling LIVE, but not through automap, I use a standard MIDI CC# template, I found the LIVE automap unnecessary.

try here for advice.
