It took a full re-install of Leopard to fix the problem. It's fine now and only God knows what was going on with my AMS.

What a nightmare! I only just read this thread so forgive me for not seeing it sooner. You probably didn't need to reinstall Leopard entirely if only AMS was misbehaving. Surely there "should be" a way to install just that component or some portion of the OS that deals with just Core services. I haven't checked Leopard on this, but old OS and/or software version would allow at least some selective installs. One thing I would have tried (and this may be useful in the future if you or others have similar problems) is to replace the AMS application. It sounds to me like the AMS app (not just a plist) got corrupted. You should be able to install just that or even copy it from another machine as long as the OS version matches. It seems like a lot of trouble to archive and install if all you really needed was 14MB app.

Of course, that might not have fixed it at all, but from what I've read (and assuming you want to eventually figure this out if it happens again) that would be my first line of defenses after the usual suspects are rounded up (plist, drivers, AMS setup rebuild, etc.) I mean, what else is there? I guess the OS itself could have been corrupted and in that case a reinstall is called for if replacing the app didn't work.

Also, consider Time Machine in an instance like this. It is exactly this kind of scenario that Time Machine has saved me from disaster a couple of times. Replacing an app or plist is a mouse click away - as long as you have TM archive your apps. I do.

Anyway, the horses are back in the stable, so close the barn doors. And get that Time Machine software moving archives to a solid backup drive! :)

Hey where were you yesterday??

Just kidding. Did you get your D.P. and QT situation figured out?? Let me know if you need any help.
Also if they pass on you for the gig, can you recommend me for it??!! Just kidding again, it's just my dry humor carrying me through this re-install business.

What gig?
Sorry. I was reading some posts and I got you confused with another forum member.
No doubt, the result of trying for days to figure out my AMS problem.

The good news is.....It seems fine now.

This is what I wrote to Motu support. I'm not quite sure if it will help, but if you are using a Motu MIDI interface......

Hello,
I think I may have been too hasty in marking this as resolved. After further investigation(been going at it for a while), I finally figured out the problem. I completely re-installed OSX on a new drive, then DP5, and PT7. The conflict was present. So, I did another install on a third disk which had no data. This time I did not use migration assistant. Once again, the software, but this time PT first. Then I noticed that when I used the MOTU Audio, and USB installer's easy install, the problem returned. After further checking, I found that if I used custom install and only used(for example) the 'PCI', and the 'MTP/XT' install, everything runs perfectly. I went back to my original drive/application folder, and deleted the other MOTU 'non-PCI' set-up, and console apps, now my DP6, and PT8 is working flawlessly. Seems strange to me but, that's what worked for me. I hope this can help someone else.
Thank you for your patience, and support.

I hope this helps someone.
